I picked it up during the autumn steam sale and it was the first game I fired up on my new rig as a benchmark. I haven't had a chance to finish it yet but I pretty much agree with everything you said. I especially liked observing all the NPCs in the first couple of stations and the homemade weapons. It actually felt like I was there in a post-apocalyptic world... just like a good book. Can't wait to get back and finish it after finals are over.
