I have just finished building a PC for the first time and I'm having an issue with my RAM. When i look at my system properties, i see that only 3.99 gbs of my 8 gbs of memory is usable. Any ideas on whats causing this or how to repair it?
Well you have a 64-bit version of Windows, so all of your memory should be recognized. It sounds like either a bad stick of RAM or a bad DIMM slot.
Make sure your RAM is seated correctly and completely pushed down into the slot. If it is, try taking both sticks out and re-seating them. If you're still having problems, then try testing the system with only one stick of RAM in at a time. If one stick works, then take that one out and try the other one. If both single sticks can boot the computer up, then it might be a bad dimm slot. Try putting both sticks in the other pair of slots and see if it recognizes all of your ram.
