Welp, my G510 decided last night was the time to drop dead on me after about 1.5 years of use (not amused)
Currently I am Stuck Using an Ancient PS2 Micron that still works, and am so fed up with membrane Keyboard lifespans getting ever shorter that I have decided to get a Mechanical this time.
Currently I am Looking at the Corsair Vengence K95 But right at the moment I have a couple issues with that.
1. Local stores here are a Waste of time for anything any better than a budget no-name membrane keyboard like what you would find on alibaba or dealextreme at 10x+ the price, and refuse to order anything.
2. Online stores (newegg/amazon) seem to not only want full MSRP, but keep changing the price while I try to check out....(Glitch Maybie?)
so, if you know of any similar keyboards to recommend, or of alternate places to order from that can do freaky fast shipping for cheap, please post it.
(Need it asap, I cant stand using this ancient pice of junk and miss my backlit keys)
+1 on the K70. Will probably be my next keyboard. Has everything I need, nothing more or less. :)
Never ordered anything through newegg so can't speak for them. We have two great PC component stores up here; Canada Computers and NCIX. Both have pretty good stock on most products from low to high-end and usually have some good deals going on.
Lot's of people use newegg, so I think it should be safe to order through them. Same with Amazon.
Honestly I am pretty happy with my Logitech k120 only thing I want really is those media controls on the keyboard. How often do these mechanical keyboards break because I saw Corsair offer a free one year warranty for buying a k70 through their store. Makes me feel like they are fairly unreliable(led's only?). I don't like the k95s extra keys on the left but I do like the blue better.
Would ask myself if I need micro buttons and what kind of switches I perfer. The K95 isn't really cheap so you've got a lot of options like the MK-85 from Qpad with brown Cherry switches.
Poker/Pure are definitely nice because they seem to have PBT keycaps by default. Most keyboards have ABS caps which get greasy and wear out faster. Ducky also has some PBT models, full size too.
got it this afternoon, so-far I really like it, the only thing i would change however, the backlighting.
the white is a little "to" in your face, (would prefer a multi color LED setup like my G510 Had, and the brightness controls would be better if they started at 10% rather than 30%.
Also their is this one flashing light that like the Bios switch, their is no reference to in any documentation.
(it has what looks like a download icon below it.)
Yeah I'm really liking small keyboards too lately. The HHKB pro looks amazing, but far to expensive for me. The pokers are great too, specially if you have the custom metal case they are awesome. But yeah I have come to prefer small keyboards now, my current kb is Razer Blackwidow (the older gloss blue light version), it has Cherry MX Blues, but I prefer Browns Ive since found out.
love my ducky tenkeyless, coolermaster quick fire tk, rosewill. all i can say is i love mechanical and wont go back, i dont need or like keyboards that have programmable keys (logitech g15 for years only use the quick keys to open firefox and copy and paste fast totally not worth the money), the prices for keyboards online change a lot and fast so look around. it would be nice to know what you like doing most so people could suggest key types if you went mechanical. i hear that thermaltake has an interesting membrane based board that feels sort of mechanical that's worth looking into depending on what you want
