Mechanical keyboards vs membrane

I've used a membrane keyboard for all of my life, but a few days ago my Razer Arctosa keyboard (membrane) broke due to me being an idiot, So I took my time with searching for a new keyboard and I found out about mechanical keyboards, after learning some more about time i realised that blue switches would be the best for me, and so I got the razer Blackwidow 2013 and it feels awesome, after trying to type on my old keyboard again (it still feels fine, it just won't work on my computer) it felt god awful, and that's only after a few hours of using this keyboard, it is much louder though and as a person who does live commentaries every now and then it might hurt, but it's worth the hit.

(I do not want brown switches)

What is your opinion on this? I definitely feel like I'll never go back to membrane keyboards.

tl;dr : Mechanical vs Membrane (regular) keyboards?

Pretty much everyone says mech > membrane.

I also have a Razer Blackwidow Ultimate 2013.  Feel great, and my Steelseries Siberia V2's mic doesn't pick up much of the MX Blue noise.

I still like membrane for mashing though.  The membranes are softer so mashing the keys doesn't hurt as much lol.  Cherry MX Blues are really nice for typing though.

in general mechs are better, but membrane's get a bad rap, there are a select few that can actually compete with mechs, i truly enjoy my quietkey just as much as my rk9000

I just switched from a membrane to Cherry MX Black. While I do like the Cherry switches much better, I wasn't 100% blown away.

Nobody needs 29384 key rollover.

Clicky switches are as loud as typewriters,non-clicky swtiches are still louder than membrane switches.

Don't see the point of using a mechanical keyboard unless you are doing typing for extended periods of time everyday. And it would be for health reasons.

I've tried black and brown and i wasn't impressed.I'm happy with my slim membrane keyboard.

For me that's exactly the point. I type a lot and switching to a mechanical keyboard has been a great experience. I'm using blues, I'm not bothered by the sound because having an audible + a tactile feedback is actually really nice if you want to get into a rhythm when typing. You can also type a lot faster and it generally just feels better. I just wish I had heard about MX green switches before, since I have pretty heavy and big hands and actuating a key on accident still happens from time to time.

In regards to gaming I have to say it makes little to zero difference for most users. 10 key (or n-key) rollover can be nice, but it never was an issue for me before. It's just weird IMO that most of those keyboards get marketed as "gaming" products....

I can't stand "standard" keys I love low-profile keys, or else I feel like my fingers are climbing mountains when they try to get anywhere,

I have the quickfire tk w/ mx blues, and I love it. My family may not enjoy the clackity clackness in the wee hours of the morning, but they haven't said anything about it yet (which is weird cause they're very outspoken people). I would like to give the cherry mx black and green keys a try. I find myself accidentally pressing keys when I rest my hands on my keyboard. I think a heavier key would be better.

As for membrane keyboards, they're meh. They cause my hands to cramp whenever I type on them for extended periods of time; whereas, with my mechanical keyboard, I can type for hours without any sort of discomfort. Membrane keyboards also feel "squishy". I don't like it. I much prefer the stability a good mech keyboard offers.

Damn necrothreads. Oh well, hopefully this info helps someone. We tend to get these types of questions quite often anyways.
