Mechanical Keyboard VS. 120 GB SSD

So pretty much i have a choice soon between a 120 GB SSD or a mechanical keyboard. Im very unsure of which one to get. Also if you think i should get a mechanical keyboard, which one should i get? The same for if you think I should get the 120GB SSD.

Get the mech board, a good one will last you 10 to 20 years. SSDs are constantly coming down in price and growing in size, holding out for them to become more of a standard would do you well.

EDIT: Since skull is countering, let me elaborate. You could buy a good mech keyboard now and pay $120 for it. Alternatively you can pay $120 and get a 200GBish SSD now. Jump ahead a year, you will be paying $120 for the same keyboard you would have a year previous, but you'll likely get a 260GB-320GB SSD for the $120 you paid the previous year.

SSD first, keyboard 2nd. SSD=Better Preformance

Great point made, could maybe use a recomendation on a keyboard as well.

There are a few keyboard elitest members here who will be able to pitch in.

I use a SteelSeries 7G, its a good black switch board that isn't stupidly expensive. I'd list its features but you can simply look it up.

Make note though, you'll probably want to try out the different color of switches to find what fits you best. I fall into a bit of a niche category prefering blacks for typing simply because I'm a heavy typist, striking the keys fairly hard, thus I've found blues and browns don't give me enough resistance. Make sure to give blues, browns, blacks and reds a try before making any purchases.

I have to agree with getting a keyboard as well, especially when you think about exactly how much performance gain your going to get out of an SSD. Most of the time when you are gaming, you will decrease load times by about 30 seconds (most likely less than that), and if you have plenty of ram, and your mechanical HDD is a good one, I really do not see the value of an SSD at that point. I'm sure that most people have time to wait 30 more seconds for their computer to boot, and save $120 for something else.

I think you will be more happy with a good keyboard, since that is one of the main ways you interface with your computer. You can own an excellent gaming rig, but if the keyboard strains your fingers after just 20min of gaming, it's just not that appealing.

Also agree with Steel Series, have heard nothing but good opinions about them.

The Steelseries 6GV2 is just the 7G without the palmrest and usb/audio hub, I would recommend that one if you don't want the extra frills the 7G has.

I also agree that you should buy the keyboard first and an SSD second, SSDs are coming down in price literally every day, probably be able to get a 1tb SSD for dirt cheap within 3 to 4 years at this rate.

There is one additional difference. The 7G has a shortened backspace, elevated forward slash (pipe) key and an enlarged enter key. The 6GV2 has a shortened right shift, the forward slash (pipe) key decends down beside the right shift, and the enter key is enlarged. That difference was the killer when I was choosing between the two of them, I use the right shift frequently, I don't make mistakes often. :)

I prefer longer backspaces, so the 7G was a no-go for me.

They are both great keyboards considering the price.

There is also a red switch version of the 6gv2 too.
