Yeah, if it was hotswap I would have probably got one by now.
hotswap switches? Yep, itās got em.
I like the sound of anne pro 2ās ātapā feature were shift, f1, f2 and right control are the arrows (in a natural location).
If there was a solid aluminum barebones case option that plays nice with an anne pro 2 (plus anne pro needs to sell their PCB) that would probably get me to bite.
Tempted to just get the questionably āhas agreement with anne proā clone on Amazon as a starter into this foray.
Qmk will do that. You can grab any custom board.
Oof I have so much to learn.
I managed to miss that completely.
Bruh, QMK is C for your keeb. Want me to write a program to play snake on the key backlights?
I have acquired additional antique autism articulators.
Good god the beamspring is smooth/frictionless. I rarely encountered a few of these kinds of keyboards as a child, but was never really cognizant of using them and only remembered their massive size. Itās rightfully a legend. I want a dedicated typing keyboard made from these, Iād even learn to type just to use it!
The model M key on the other hand is something I definitely remember using on some ancient DOS machines growing up. While the model F is definitely preferable as far as general feeling if I was doing lots of typing, the M has lighter/quieter press with what seems like a slightly shorter activation/reset would be preferable for general use.
The rabbit hole deepens. 90% Iād brick something, I tend to brick things lol.
@snowBlind623 here is a vid of the gk64xs showing some features of the software and such (06:07)
Itās no QMK but looks neat. Epomaker is not out of the running for me, at least for a starter board. This might be my first⦠needle:
I like the grey white scheme more if I was leaving it stock, but I think the black case will have good contrast with the keys I have coming in. Their ābare bonesā kit is not even $10 less than getting it complete.
Iāve used qmk with my massdrop ctrl and with my current melody96. but Iād like to also make macroās. Are there applications to easily make/record macroās or do i need to program them myself? The qmk configurator only allows changing keymaps.
Tall speherical caps, there might be two profiles mixed in the bag I sorted, they are easy enough to tell apart if so.
Cherry, OEM, DSA, DCS⦠All sorts
Flat circular profile caps
Graveyard of pullers
I guess this is basically an NK65 competitor?
Pros:
Aluminum (not cause of sound, just something premium about having a huge piece of extruded metal)
QMK software
If NK65 then things like drop in foam and silicon kits should fit.
Cons:
I guess price- and forget any wireless hopes
North facing LEDs + Cherry profile (the route Iām going). The site does not specify if the prod board switched to south after the prototype was north.
So the beauty of it is that if you donāt mess with the bootloader, which 99.99% of the time you donāt need to, you can always flash a āknown goodā firmware back on. Think of it like installing an os on your PC.
I write all my qmk configs in c, not the configurator, because itās limited in that respect. Iām not so sure about macros. Are you looking for runtime write/replay macros or hardcoded macros that stay? I know you can do both, but Iāve only done hardcoded macros.
Iāve got my desktop ripped apart for cleaning right now, but Iāll share my configs and methods with you when itās back up if youāre interested.
I had not dipped into the interference subject until today- so pretty much ALL of the keyboards Iāve been adding to my āevaluateā list would not play nice with the cherry profiles I have on the way. They are all north facing LED. No big deal, the keycaps were cheap and even returnable (the latter is a thing of mine though, I used to own a small business so i HATE being that guy that casually returns stuff because of poor planning on my part, not due to legit QC issues).
Iām not getting full confidence in the ārumorā style posts of certain switches not having this issue such as holy pandas. Nor do I want to give up blues just to avoid interference.
Iām getting convinced to go with the IDOBAO ID67 65% HOT-SWAPPABLE MECHANICAL KEYBOARD KIT (Iām not yelling, Iām too lazy to type it out). It has south facing LEDs. QMK is a big perk too- @SgtAwesomesauce being awesome (yes, pun) for bringing that up.
Its that or going with no lit boards, or new keycaps.
I prefer the sharp edges of the Tofu cases, but then I like the ID67ās spacer on the right side that lets you use more normy sized keys in that area.
Imma look for Tofu kits with south facing. Also looking for white backlighting over RGB for this panda/stormtrooper look. This seems to be the Tofu equivalent (minus the small ergo difference of the bottom right corner)
So $130 vs. $200 for sharp edges. I guess there are nuances I shouldnāt overlook with the mounting methods, overall height, angle and PCB as well.
@snowBlind623 are you keeping the GK61X regardless of the second board you get? Iām thinking the GK61X or GK68X will make for a great travel board,
When I first got my Ctrl, I was like āthis config util is awful, letās see how the c config works. Okay, this is cool, but complex.ā 3 months later and Iām keeping my own fork up to date lmao.
You can keep it simple with a āstockā firmware, or go balls to the wall.
I really like backlit boards with qmk for one reason: status. When I have my numpad emulation layer on, I want to know that, so I have it switch the color of those keys to green.
You can do that with ambient lighting too, but I find the per key backlights better.
looks like you need to jump onto some bespoke gucci keycap group buy that will take a year to arrive cause rona.
Fuck that. I like the drop skylight series. I just donāt want to spend another $45 to get the damn cap replaced. I guess itās back to my hyperx pudding set till I find that cap.
For those of us non 1337 GUI plebe mortals, what do you think of:

and VIA? (Assuming the DZ65RGB v3 works with VIA).
