MB don't work

Hi there,

my Problem is that my PC won't start. I know it is the PSU (Tesla R2 500W) but i tested it with an other PSU (some noname 550W) and nothing changed. I know that the PSU (Tesla R2 500W) it broken cause i tested it with the pin 14 + pin 15 method and it won't start but the other one starts (noname 550W) but not if i plug it in the Motherboard. Now to the funny thing . . . the LEDs on the MB lit if i plug the Tesla on it (but i know it is broken) but won't if i plug the noname 550W in it??

My question now is, can it be that the MB i broken too? Or is it just the old noname PSU that won't start this board? The noname PSU is really old and not conform with the ATX 2.0 standarts (but it has 24pins (20 + 4) and a 4pin for the CPU (12V))could this be the reason?

I think THIS is the old noname PSU (it is from an old athlon xp build from a friend) here is an other Picture

PS: in both cases i just pluged the 24pin in the MB

Thanks for reading this post and sorry for my "english".

you also need to plug in a 4 or 8 pin cpu power connector, without that, it will not start either.

if you psu has no ATX2.0 standard it will most likely not work with todays mobo´s.

Which mobo are we talking about?

Hi Angel,

the thing is that the LED's of the MB don't lit with the noname PSU . . . with the Tesla R2 they lit even if i dont plug the 8 pin 12V in (and it is Kaputt :). I tried it with the 4pin 12V (from the noname PSU (for the CPU)) pluged in but it will not work no matter what. I HOPE the noname PSU is just not capable of running the board cause if the MB is broken it would be really shitty . . .

PS: All my components are on my profile site :) MB is a gene VI

Sorry i did not check your profile yet.

But i still think its the psu. Maybe if there is a computer shop nearby your place who can connect a psu to your system, to determine if its the psu.

i mean your no-name psu is from 2003, so i would indeed not be supriced that it does not work with your new board.

OK, so i borrowed a be quiet! Straight Power from a friend and the MB seems to work! Now i need a new PSU and i was thinking of this one or this one. What do you guys (and gals) think.

PS: I just got ~80€ for a PSU and i would like to get a modular one and it has to be 80+ gold. (yea i know i'm a bit picky)

PPS: i live in germany

Both should be just fine.

€80 is plenty for a decent psu realy.

I would personaly not go with the EVGA super Nova, because this psu has multiple 12V rails.

The Corsair CS is a decent unit. 550W is basicly, more then enough. There is also a 650W one for €82.
