Asking here again for some help. I’ve never tried running bottles before as I have not had the need for it. I tried installing MathCAD on my Windows Server but I’m getting an error. This server is more powerful than my laptop so I use it for now for gaming on the go.
I need to have MathCAD for this college. I tried SMath but the UI and functionalities are not often the same, so solving for x, often does not work.
I tried putting the install.exe into bottles, also enabled Windows VM but those didn’t work.
Got any ideas how I should continue? Should I try to use the pre-existing installed files from the failed Win installation?
Check out this similar thread, where I argue that, while it is possible to run all kinds to Windows software in Wine - my personal experience is that it is mostly not impossible to do so. My track record on getting Windows software to run reliably in Wine is poor.
I recommend setting up a Windows virtual machine on your Linux host and installing your Windows software there. VMs are relatively easy to use and reliable in 2024 but typically expect (require?) virtualization support be turned on in the computer BIOS/UEFI.
There are several prominent virtualization technologies available. In the above mentioned thread I recommended KVM as implemented by Box on Fedora (because OP was already using Fedora), but any other should work as well.
sorry for the late response
attach the .iso you copy from a thumb drive to the VM through settings
also, add a cpu core or 3 (at least for install). It isn’t greedy, the underpinning scheduler remains intact.
