Massdrop - Professional Wireless AC Access Points Vote (Ubiquiti, Cisco, etc.)

Ubiquiti, Cisco, and Ruckus are listed: dro.ps/v/8ymzvmh.

Here’s an overview of what I think will probably be the most popular two brands:

  • Ubiquiti
  • Tek Syndicate favorite
  • ultra-easy setup
  • awesome features for the price
  • Cisco
  • Industry favorite
  • they practically hand them out to institutions
  • usually expensive for everyone else
  • more difficult setup (may need controller or licensed software)

@Logan @DeusQain will you be buying any new APs for the new office?

i voted for the Ubiquiti. they seem like good APs

Have Cisco resolved the nonsense bullshit asshattery of the current line of 802.11AC where they put such an anemic CPU in them that half the management software has to live on some other wildly expensive piece of cisco gear?

Because "upgrading" some N units with the AC radio that depends on half the software stack running outside the actual AP feels a bit like a bait and switch they ought to be sued over.

Wow. I posted this only yesterday and it's already at 150 votes! Already 131 of those total are for either the Ubiquiti AC AP or the three pack of them.

i hope the three pack gets in. i might be doing a pretty big network build for my dad soon and a three pack of those at a lower rate would gladly be accepted

It also depends on what Ubiquiti chooses. They may deny the three pack, but it would be a great marketing choice to have the three pack. Your non-tech-savvy guests will say something like, "DUDE! You have three routers mounted in the ceiling? Do you have three internet plans too? You must be rich."

lol isnt it funny how those who dont know just assume they are routers

One of my friends thought that one was a knockoff of the Nest smoke alarm.

smh

If Ubiquiti actually does this, then the price is going to go way down considering how cheap they already are. Plus, I'm sure Ubiquiti is used to volume pricing since they sell to big businesses and large-scale deployments.

I wonder if Massdrop has contacted Ubiquiti yet. There are about 322 (of 388) votes for the Ubiquiti AP. It still just says to share it at the top.
