Manual vs. Automatic Case Fan Contol (Which do you prefer?)

I prefer manual control of my case fans.  On my motherboard (Gigabyte Z87X-UD3H) the fan curve goes off the temperature of the chipset, which doesn't seem to fluctuate much.  I find it therefore very difficult to set up a decent fan curve (i.e. when it is summer the fans are maxed out, and when it is winter they pretty much stay at their lowest RPM, regardless of the load); granted, I do have a high air flow case.  What do you guys prefer?

On a side note, the manual fan control function on my motherboard sucks.  It requires one to open up an application called the 'App Center' (which takes forever to open), then open another application entitled 'Easy Tune'; after a few more clicks you are finally at your destination, where you can manually set the fan speed via a dial (similar to a car's speedometer).  There are also no presets, you have to re-set it each time.  I don't use it.  I use the fan controller built into my case, and I formally used a third party fan controller (the BitFenix Recon; which has fantastic lightweight software by the way, but requires an online connection).  What is the manual fan control like on your motherboards, any better?

I prefer auto. I have an asus x79 deluxe and I just set it to silent and forget about it

When I initially built my PC I put all the default fans (except CPU) on the controller. (I have a Corsair 650D) And I would adjust to whatever I was doing.

Then I got some Noctua fans and set them to there lowest level while still keeping the PC cool and then never messed with it.

I prefer to just have some nice cooling that I don't have to worry about.
