Manjaro Budgie audio crashing

My audio keeps on crashing, I tried using yee old google machine for help but that didn’t help. I don’t know how to find the route cause, usually just happens when I’m on TeamSpeak, but does happen time to time on Firefox. Only way I’ve found to fix it is a full computer restart.

  1. Can you describe the exact behavior of the computer at the time of a crash please?
  2. What does journalctl --catalog --boot say about it? Does it have any crash reports? If so, please paste the relevant section of the output here.
  3. Have you tried running a different Linux distribution from a LiveUSB, or having a dual boot with another distro? If you have, does the crashing occur there as well? If you haven’t, could you please try a LiveUSB, Ubuntu Disco for example?
  4. Do you have any peripheral devices connected to your computer? What is your exact audio source (headphone jack, line out, USB audio, internal speaker, et cetera)?
  5. It might be useful down the line to have your lspci and lsusb outputs, so please do paste them here.

I wish you luck with this issue which you are experiencing!

So I swapped to Ubuntu for a day, and got the same issue
Seems to be an audio driver issue because my game was crashing, I’d get it back but with not audio. I wouldn’t be able to voice chat in it either, doesn’t happen with videos, and happens when voice chatting on Team Speak. It’ll fully crash my computer for about 30 seconds to a minute then go back with no audio
I did try changing kernels to newer and older ones, the issue only got worse for some reason. Also, still doing it on Manjaro Gnome
Nothing in the journalctl --catalog --boot command seems to be popping up
Currently I’m using a usb audio adapter, I’m going to try swapping to just the 3.5 out on my mobo. I had to use the usb audio adapter for a while just for my mic, but don’t have to anymore. Besides that I have my stuff go from my PC to my speakers, and my speakers have a 3.5 on it and I’ll use that for my headphones. I’m trying it without the adapter and my game won’t really launch properly currently

lspci(if curious I’m running MSI x58m motherboard with an x5667 CPU)

this is the lsusb, this taught me I have USB 1.1 on my computer. I’m disappointed, can’t complain too much though

Also! Thank you for doing what you can do to help!

I only really have extensive experience with my laptop, but my intuition tells me that you have an older motherboard, if not an older computer in general, especially since 1.1 seems to prevail on your system.

Hmm…
Could you share your dmesg --human output after you experience the crash? It should say something in there.

And I am always happy to help!

I was trying to work on this issue last night but my computer started crashing more and more. I found out that there was a temp on my mobo that was rather warm, for running x58 I wasn’t too surprised and went to take off that heat sink, but had to take off my cpu cooler to get to it
Thankfully though it seems like my CPU cooler has damaged a trace on my motherboard and I’m going to guess that was the issue, currently my computer won’t boot to manjaro from a thumb drive or on my ssd, both end up throwing errors at me either when I login to manjaro or when I try to boot into the live instance. I highly doubt it but I’m going to see if Cooler Master might do something because their product has damaged my motherboard to the point that it doesn’t work.

So… That went south quickly. I wonder what the error messages are. Could you share them with me?

Also, I wonder what dmesg would have had to say were you to have been able to share the output of it…

Good luck with the motherboard!

I’ll see if I can boot up my PC to a terminal and go from there, but I can’t promise too much because every time I sign in it just crashes, but thank you! I got my fingers crossed, but not hoping for too much

My friend is lending me his old PC for now, but I’m really annoyed with what happened. This PC had a 212 evo on it, similar mounting hardware and the stuff also hurt this motherboard but I don’t have any issues currently. I think I’ll work on seeing what errors the broken mobo is throwing out because I’m curious too
