My name is Dim and i am building my first pc. I live in europe so selecting the parts was quite tough becouse ordering all the parts i wanted would've costed me $300 in shipping and taxes. The rig that i am building kinda looks like this: CPU: AMD FX-8320 €139,90 No Aftermarket CPU-cooler, becouse i am a badass. MoBo: MSI 970A-G43 €73,33 RAM: Kingston Savage 8GB (2 x 4GB) €68,85 HDD: Western Digital Caviar Blue 1TB €59,48 GPU: i am not to sure yet, this thread is about my gpu becouse i can't decide. Case: Aerocool Mechatron white €49,99 PSU: SeaSonic 520W 80+ Bronze Certified €69,00
that is the most important stuff. for the GPU i did some research and i think my best options are either the XFX R9-280X-TDBD or the EVGA 04G-P4-2768-KR. both of these GPUs will set me back €270,- and they look to be quite similar. The games that i plan on playing with the systems are: GTA V (mostly that), Maybe some BF4, we'll see. CS:GO, and a bit of Minecraft.
If you have any reccomendations for the gpu or any other parts of the system please let me know, this is the maximun price that i can pay however.
I can let others tell you about the rest of the build, but currently we're looking at the R9 280X being the more powerful part overall, but the GTX 760 is one of those sweet-spot cards that isn't too weak and is pretty efficient. The GTX 760 is going to be the better fit for the 520W PSU you picked out.
If you are willing to do some thrifty shopping around for a solid 650W PSU, the 280X would be a better pick for the performance it provides over the GTX 760.
I recommend a cheap cooler master hyper 2012 evo it will keep your ears from bleeding and keep the chip nice and cool. Allso spend a little more on a reasonable mobo (the MSI 970A-G43 is not good) Cheapest suggestions MSI 970 GAMING Gigabyte GA-970A-UD3P Asus M5A97 EVO R2.0
I know about those options, but i´m really tight on the cash department, i originally planned on using the hyper 212 evo and the 970 gaming but i couldn´t get the price down to my likings. I will either try and get some more money together (search through some couches and such) or just go with the noice and upgrade the MoBo later
Seriously get the core componants that you need to get now, and any comfort pieces (upgrades or extras) later on when you can afford it. And as @cooperman said, you really need a beefier board for the 8-Core FX chips. The 970A-UD3P has a pretty decent VRM strapped to it, and should handle that FX-8320 without any issues.
I would be recommending an Intel system since GTA:V runs a bit poorly on the FX chips from what I keep hearing, but I will leave that to somebody else. I think the AMD system will do fine.
Edit: By "runs poorly" I mean in contrast to the Intel based machines. It's not that the AMD systems make the game unplayable by any means, it's just that there are more-than-subtle differences.
About the GPU, i think a 280X would be your best buy in that price range. In Europe a R9-290 sits above €300,- price mark.
Better mobo is allready mentioned above.
I would personaly go with a locked i5 + H97 mobo if you could afford, because that will still be better then a FX8320 in gaming. But yeah an locked i5 will be a littelebit more expensive. Of course a FX8320 paired with a midrange gpu like a 280X will still be totaly fine.
I knew Mistery would swoop in and recommend the i5 + H97. :P
It's the right idea, but I think the FX-8320 with that 970 board and the 280X will be sufficient for the games you play. Minecraft MIGHT have problems due to Java wanting to suck up all the RAM and CPU cores, but you can limit that by just telling Java to use "X threads and X RAM" in the Java Properties/Runtime tab (in windows you find it in the control panel).
Oh, and Java does that sometimes still even WITH an Intel based system. Ask me about how it tried to use 16GB of DDR4 and 12 threads on an i7. (Goddamn you Java!!)
I hope you've got all the answers you came for, the builds detailed here all seem to make an improvement on what you had detailed originally. I do need to mention that if you are going to attempt overclocking, that little cooler I included in my list should be replaced by a Hyper 212 or better, as the FX-8320 will quickly overpower it at higher clock rates. However, somewhere areound the 4.4GHz range (with Turbo on, so it still drops back when not in use) should be just right for that little cooler. Just watch the temps!
well i live near the border aswell, and i have a diffrent experiance. To me parts in Germany seem more expensive.
i boaght some of my parts back in 2013 in Germany aswell, cause there was a price diffrence. But now days, there is not realy a price diffrence anymore imo.
