I have been a Mac user for many years, and have been looking into getting into PC gaming. Now I know Windows is much better for gaming but are there other benefits to using Windows over Mac? This is a serious question I'm not trying to start an OS war on here, I only have basic knowledge of computers and would just like to know if I should switch. Thank you for your help!
Short list before somebody goes full-on PC elitist in this thread.
- More 'open' OS. You could go in and gently edit some parts of it if you so desired.
- More options. Macs have a lot of programs to choose from, Windows has more.
- Cheaper computer for what you get.
- Much larger parts compatibility. Macs can be a pain in the ass to find parts for if something goes kaput.
- Games
If you want to try Windows you can install Windows on a Mac using Bootcamp. Or at least there was a program you could use a few years ago called Bootcamp that allowed you to install a second OS.
I've found that I prefer to use Mac OS X for my everyday use, but this is a bit presumptuous statement for me, since I have a desktop that I use for gaming. Windows is perfectly serviceable, plus you get the added benefit of being able to run Linux, or possibly of making a hackintosh. I do like the general build quality of Apple products, but I do wish that it was less expensive to acquire such quality. I do definitely recommend building your own desktop computer at some point, and that NZXT H440 is a fantastically beautiful case to cram it in. I would probably go with a white case and the MSI Lightning colored components. Evidently the MSI Lightning R9 290X is pretty damn impressive.
Have you looked at Linux-based SteamOS?
I think you can scroll through the forums to find the answer to this. Many people on the forum see the title, groan, and keep scrolling. This is already a well-discussed topic.
The biggest question is, are you willing to commit the time to learn the ins and outs of Windows. If you dedicate enough time and effort on learning Windows environment, you can accomplish the same tasks that can be performed on Mac OS too and even more!
The only thing I miss from Mac OS is the ability to switch between multiple desktops, but hey, that's what multiple monitors setup are for.
Just saying that here is already ATLEAST five threads about this. GUARANTEED THREE threads about this.
Idk with StartisBack it is basically Windows 7. I never go to the New Interface or whatever. It is just a flatter, faster version of Windows 7 really to me.
Exactly. I've used StartIsBack almost the entire time I've had computers running windows 8, and in a way I actually prefer it over 7 in that state.
There would seem to be some compatibility issues with older games, but that's bound to happen eventually.
Thanks for the help, might try to build a cheap gaming rig to try it out.
I use both. There is no subtle in either platforms.
