The Extreme4 is a bit cheaper, so would you guys say that the M5A99FX PRO R2.0 is worth the little extra money?
Please include actual reasons. Don't just state that one is better.

And I don't think that I have to say this, but just in case, I am referring to the 990fx boards here. No Intel vs AMD bs.
i dont know if you allready made a decision, but both decisions will be fine realy.
i would personaly go for The Asus because they have realy high quality components on theire boards. 6+2 powerphase and digi vrm. Logan used it in his videos FX8350 oc vs i5 oc. and oc the FX8350 to 4.7 ghz without any problems. so its a decent board for basic overclocks. same counts for the Asrock 990FX extreme 4 8+2 powerphase should be very capable to do some basic overclocks.
The thing is that I like the seeming durability of the Asus board (seems pretty high end, just without the frills, from what I've read) but the Asrock board is cheaper. I don't know if the added price is really justified. I don't plan to be doing too much overclocking, so maybe the Asrock would suit me just fine.
M5A99FX PRO R2.0 every time, the only assrock mobo any good for AM3+ is the extreme 9
The M5A99FX PRO R2.0 has higher quality Digital 6 + 2 vrm the assrock has analog 8+2 vrm.
What would you guys suggest as a cheaper 990fx board? I would go with the M5A99FX PRO R2.0 if I decided to spend that much, but if I had to cut some costs, what would be a good alternative?
With AMD chips the motherboard is very important. You need a solid power dilvery system for your chip. There was a great budget board from Gigabyte the 970A-UD3, but tey cheaped out on the newer revisions so it is no longer a recomended. If youc an get a Revision 1.0 or 1.1 of the baord then it would be good.
However if you are looking I would go nothing less than a ASUS Sabertooth, Gigabyte UD5, or The Asrock Extreme9. A quality 8+2 power phase is a necessity for those high overclocks 4.9-5.2ghz.
If you are only looking for a 4.3-4.5ghz clock then most boards in the 9xx series can handle that if you keep the vrm temps down.
The Asrock 990FX Extreme 4 has a 8+2 powerphase design, and also digi vrm. but terrible color theme. and the quality will probably not as good as the Asus M5A99FX pro R2.0
Also very nice looking board is the Asrock 990FX Fatality professional with 12+2 powerphase and digi vrm. same as the extreme 9. but those boards are more expensive.
i would personaly still go for a Asus board.
Asus sabertooth or M5A99fx pro R2.0

As I've already stated, I don't plan to do too much overclocking. I want to keep the heat output of my computer low. I might want to do a light to medium overclock, but most likely, that wouldn't even be necessary as I would have a bottleneck imposed by my video card (if I got an 8350, which I plan to do).
If anyone has some personal experience with the Extreme4, input about your experiences would be greatly appreciated.
having used both as well as multi sabertooths, the extreme4 is actually a very nice board for its price, a buddy of mine was lucky enough to get 2 8300's(95watt) both of them where very easy to get stable a 5ghz on the extreme4 with the fet fan, the sabertooth had fet heat issues( aisuit bitching about the area hitting over 90c)
despite what some say, the asrock is the board I would get now, and I own 2 sabertooth 990fx boards.
if you are looking in the next teir up, get the gigabyte ud5, in my exp its a better board then the sabertooth in that its fet area dosnt get nuclear.
btw, i have used 8+ extreme4's to build 8300/8320/8350 based systems, each of them was easy to get at least 4.6 out of (with proper cpu cooling), in each case, I did install the optional fet sinks fan.
under normal use, evne locked at 4.6-4.8, you wont have major heat issues, under heavy extended load heat will ramp up on the FX line( as with any cpu out there)
I recommend at least a xigmatek Aegir and 120x38mm panaflow(nmb-mat) fan(2 is better), if you want far better, get either
Thermalright Silver Arrow Extreme
Noctua D14
Phanteks PH-TC14PE (with 3rd fan)
any of those should get you 4.8-5ghz without the hassles or risks of liquid cooling :)
Thanks, AshenTech. Seems like the Extreme4 would be the way to go.
The 990FX extreme 4 is indeed a good choice, i dont read much negative users review´s of it. but the Asus M5A99FX pro R2.0 is also a great choice. just looks which has the nicer feutures and which one fits the best into your budget.
