Is there a M.2 (2242) that has just the B Key and not B and M Key? I tried a M.2 (PX-128M6G-2242) on the mpcie combo II that comes with the Gene VI but it will not work correctly. The strange thing is that the MB sometimes detects the M.2 and sometimes it don't. I called the costumer service and they said "clear the CMOS" (remove the battery and put it in backwards for 5 min.) I've done this, but other than that i had to change everything back to my previous settings it haven't helped a bit. The second thing is that they can't tell me what M.2 will work in there cause they haven't tested any M.2 on that Board (great job asus). Since there is an B Key on the mpcie combo i think i have to put a M.2 with JUST an B Key in there but i can't find any with just the B Key. Please, can someone help me?
PS: the MB supports the SATA and PCIe interface and it has to be a 2242
PPS: Sorry for my bad english
UPDATE: it seems no one can help me, so someone can delete this post.
I looks like B-Key SSDs are older. Might be harder to find now, have you checked e-bay, Amazon other websites that have a wider variety then just common PC hardware. You might have to go gum-shoe and hunt one down detective style as the differences between B and M keyed SSDs are small and pictures might be confusing if the photograph the back rather than the front.
Sorry for the necro ~16 days but I did not see this topic before.
I've searched on Amazon and i don't want to buy used stuff (ebay). Are you sure the B key M.2 are "old"? I mean the M.2 standard isn't that old (the "new" intel boards are the first to use this Standard i believe).
Old not in age really but that it is PCIe X2 for B keyed SSDs and PCIe x4 for M keyed SSDs or was it B&M keyed.
Either way while I am not super specific on the other B keyed SSDs use a different pinout from M keyed ones and thusly it should (I would say wont but you say yours half works) not work in other slots not designed for it.
Just the spec is different and they should no work with each other.
While B and M are different and B&M keyed SSDs can work in either B or M keyed slots. So looks like your particular SSD is just not happy with where it is. Looks like a basic compatibility issue, and you having talked to ASUS all ready know the outcome here.
Either RMA? Or return if you can and get a different SSD.
The one i used had both M and B key. I already returned the M.2 but was to afraid to ask for an other one, cause i was thinking it has to be one with just an B key (as you can see in my first post). I never had any compatibility issue in my live so i just don't thought about that (stupid me). I think i give it a try and test an other brand. Thanks for your help.
