Low profile gpu for media computer

Which gpu can i get for my desktop computer that i can use only for videos, no gaming. My computer is starting to run the fans crazy because the built in gpu it has in the motherboard sucks. low profile gpu once again and that can run under a 220w power supply(yes i know its weak)

Most integrated GPUs are more than strong enough for video. Hence, it sounds like you have a problem that won't be solved by a low profile discrete card. What CPU do you have?

amd athlon x4 645 quad core 3ghz

I had purchased an EVGA GT 730 a while back. Its not too expensive and was very quiet.

Frankly you'd probably get more out of a HTPC by going with a low end APU from AMD, than by getting a low profile GPU.

However, if that's not an option, I'd start with cleaning the system, both physically and digitally. Dust can cause the symptoms you're describing but so can malware and putting too much load on the system.

Are the system fans PWM?

its weird because once youtube allowed the 60fps option my computer started running the fans faster and makes a lot of noise. i dont know what you mean by PWM but they are stock nothing special store bought pc, do you have a program that can do that for me or do you want me to delete certain items like say old files i dont need anymore.

What's your CPU usage when watching YT?

is this a good option for playing youtube videos at 60fps 1080p?

let me check

We I have not tested any 1080 video at 60FPS but I shall test it tomorrow morning. My niece enjoys playing minecraft at 60FPS on the PC. Its paired with an Phenom II X2 521. Just a dual core at 3.5GHz. Just as @thedmbarlow suggested, the PC just may need a good cleaning. Especially if you have been able to playback 1080P 60FPS before.

ok it jumps to 50-58 percent with the fans speeding up slightly so im guessing when it spins fast its at 100 percent load

Which it shouldn't get to with just YT.

Is your broswer up to date?

it just jumped to 68 percent just now, and yes using the latest version of google chrome.

please test it tomorrow and let me know how it runs. ive been able to before and now yes but it really bothers me that the fans speed up like crazy and starting to think its the intergrated gpu on the motherboard

Hmm. Chrome is an infamous resource hog. You might want to try something more lightweight, like Firefox. If it still ends up getting to 100%, I'd go through the startup programs, minimize their number, and run a malware scan. If you do all of that, and nothing, then it's time for a fresh OS install to see if that makes a difference.

If that doesn't do it, it is time for new hardware. Keep in mind, though, that the integrated GPU may not be the problem.

ok ill try fire fox right now and see if it helps, well i just upgraded to windows 10 might that be the problem? i forgot to mention im running on windows 10 from the free upgrade they offered

yup same problem gpu is running up to 50%

The R5 230 flex comes with a low-profile bracket (it is dual slot though, because it is passively cooled).

I have it in my smaller Desktop with a ASRock Q2900M motherboard with and integrated Intel J1900 quadcore (notebook processor). The GPU sucks around 19 Watt under full load and has three digital outputs (hdmi, dvi and dvi-d). My whole system idles at around 17 Watt. Card costs around 50$. The Sapphire one has 3 digital outputs, other manufacturers offer typically only 2 outputs or 2 digital and 1 analog. If you only plug in up to two displays, those should be fine too.

Powerwise: It plays HD video no problem, plays old games well.

well it isn't that great with minecraft though however j1900 and platforms like Intel C1037u you see in a good amount of NUC's are perfect for HTPC's

Minecraft runs just fine. I have not tried hitting the system with silly high-res texture packs yet.
