HI everyone,
I have an MSI R9 280X 3G version. I am having a low FPS around say, 20-40fps. Barely reach 40 to be honest. Running all on HIGH (Auto).
Here is my Specs:
FX 6300 Disabled turbo core and not overclocked. (Stock cooler)
FSP AURUM 92+ Series Platinum 650W
MSI R9 280X 3G
MSI 970A-G43 (not the best board but wth)
Kingston SSD and a HDD
I've seen footage of people playing on max with the graphic card. Is the CPU a bottleneck? I find it hard to believe if it is, that's sad... I have clean sweep the drivers and reinstalled it.
I have a Phenom II X2 that can be unlocked to an X4 O'ced stable. Wise to switch to it? As I heard that FX 6*** are 3 cores physical etc etc with 6 threads... And please don't ask me to switch to Intel, I like to make do with what I have right now. :)
Any help will be appreciated!
Danke!
Your problem is that BF4 is a CPU demanding game...... just switch to full 4 core unlocked Phenom II x4 and oc the danm thing like 4Ghz you will see improvement......
Which drivers are you using? Also turn mantle on since that will take some load off your cpu.
I will try that tomorrow. Will see the result.
14.4 The latest one as of now. Tried mantle, didn't improve it much.
Monitor your temperatures as you play maybe you have a problem there (as you have an stock cooler and AMD's are not the best by any means)
Ok, I think I might have found the problem.
Ran MSI Afterburner and GPU-Z to monitor temp and load. Afterburner states 100% load with temp of 70 to 80+- degree Celsius (varies on location ingame). But GPU-Z states my GPU Core Clock running at 501MHz.
Shouldn't it be running at 1020MHz? Why is this happening? Any way I can make it truly at full 1020MHz?
Update*
Found the problem. It is throttling down due to temp. Used AIDA64 to stress the GPU and found that it reaches 99C at 100% load (WTH? Twinfrozr?) then dive in from 1020MHz to 501MHz. Hmm... Guess I need to find a third party cooler. Any recommendation?
I'd guess its a faulty gpu. No way twinfrozr should do that.
There was another user here that posted a thread with a similar problem. That user only had one 120mm fan as an intake for both GPU and CPU. We suggested better intake, but don't know if that user ever did take the advise.
Alright guys, time for update.
Research about this particular GPU. Apparently, it has something to do with BIOS. There's a version of the BIOS that could fix this overheating issue. I changed the BIOS and now it is running cooler, but still hot (normal for GPUs). A lot of people are having heat issues with this card. I don't think TF is the problem but perhaps some other stuff.
I could post a link to that BIOS in case anyone have a similar problem as me.

*Note it says "Updated BIOS by MSI, to fix overheating, VRM temperatures." at the bottom of the page.
Even with the lowered temperature I am still quite bothered by it. It is still kinda high for my liking. Bought an Arctic Accelero Xtreme III from a local dealer with a good deal. I will post an unboxing video as well as a build video if possible.
Thanks for those who gave suggestion! Will keep updating this thread...
