So finally got that Fury X in, reinstalled windows, Fresh new drivers, and there's some very strange thing happening here
Uploading fps video to youtube atm, but here's my hardware utilization while running Dota 2
GPU utilization is completely wild, and on my CPU 2 cores are doing basically nothing, while the rest of it is at like 30% utilization
anyone know what's going on? I'm about to head to sleep and work on it tomorrow, but damn this is weird. I guess the next step would be reinstalling dota, so that can download through the night
But then why is DOOM hitting well over 100fps on High settings, with no real issues
This is all with an FX 8300 at 4ghz btw, Vulkan is a miracle worker
Dota 2's average is around 70fps
Anyways thanks for any help, I'll be up a bit longer
Fixed the video
Changed the API to Vulkan
my GPU usage is now always at 100% when running the game, but I'm still only managing around a 60fps average, which just seems wrong
Do you have a frame limiter of some kind on Dota 2? That could be it.
It's a source game, so a Fury X should drive it at about 400fps at max settings xD
no Vsync, low everything

CS:GO shows the same strange GPU usage, but it runs where it should at like 200fps on lowest everything, probably higher if it used more than 4 threads

and I guess a forum thread with people having the same kind of performance issues, I guess reborn is just shit

** I've also set "fps_max 200" so it shouldn't be an fps limit issue
I have no idea if this will help but mine at best looking during tutorial runs 80 to 100 fps at 1080
8320e stock
770 reference card Linux mint
Wish I could help more
Might just be as simple as a CPU bottleneck, running the game with my CPU at 4.4ghz made it jump to 110fps avg, but it's still strange that the utilization is so low

Even though Vulcan can use multiple threads isn't the Source engine still a single thread engine?
Suks that I never installed this on my windows box, never played it b4 really just thought maybe having a baseline on another box might help, you know more about this stuff then I do:)
while playing I also had like 12 tabs open in opera, 5 with youtube vids
dota 2 is not s demanding game, so it will not cause high utilization of a powerful gpu. i run dota 2 using DSR 4k to 1080p from nvidia and i am getting 120fps (default max with no vsync) with a gtx 980 and a 4790k.

Suppose it's some kind of CPU bottleneck, but shouldn't it be running my cpu to 100%? It caps out at like 30-40% usage
not essentially, there could be more bottlenecks.
Check your crimson config for this game and global... though this is certainly some kind of bottleneck.
No it could be other causes other than utilization in the cpu cores, those graphs don't show the communication for the pci lanes and that could be where the bottleneck is. but idk that much to be able to say that that is the cause just that it might be.
I can say that this is not a game install problem and is a bottleneck of some kind, and that it is most likely the cpu.
This is one of the reasons most people who buy high end gpus do not buy amd.
Im showing 69 percent however the 8320e is stock w/ stock cooler so it may be working harder
I played it again after a restart and it showed this:
Also you may be using pcie2 and not pcie3
https://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/AMD/R9_Fury_X_PCI-Express_Scaling/
This article only deals with pcie3 but most am3+ are pcie2 i think and 970 chips may have less lanes, not sure though.
I read a 970 gaming review and they said it took a graphics hit over the 990 boards
Did you try just direct x?
@Urworstnit3m3r
If there was a hardware issue though it wouldn't be running DOOM at like well over 120fps average, DOOM gives me the 80% CPU load it should
I be driving TF2 at 1080p MAX 60-100 FPS, on Intel HD 4400
then... ALL THE FPS on a Fury X.
something is bottlenecking you - and you might be limiting your fps somewhere for this specific profile - or amd made some game profile for it.
I get only 290 FPS at 4K MAX on the R9 390 (TF2), maybe a CPU OC will give me the 10 extra frames I don't need.
Doom is not a source game and may not run the same way that dota 2 does. doom using 80% of your cpu shows that it runs more off cpu processing then dota 2 does, which is why dota 2 runs poor because the gpu can't communicate fast enough with the cpu to run the game well.
Doom relies on cpu and gpu
Dota 2 relies more on gpu then cpu at least from what your results are showing.
again i'm just speculating here.

Everything is stock there, same as in DOOM, also about to load up The Witcher 3
@Urworstnit3m3r
I get that it's a differnt engine and all that and not comparable, but it does show the hardware is working fine, just seems to be specific to dota 2, though CS:GO does the same thing, that game is much easier to run apparently.
