I have been looking through the more mainstream brands, LG ASUS DELL, and have yet to find a 4k monitor that is not outrageously expensive or has solid reviews. The Korean monitors reviewed by Wendell, AMH 409u and more recently the Microboard, looking promising. I am looking to compare them both through the experience of people on the forum who have one. What do you personally like about it? What do you dislike? and what did you pay?
I am looking for one that is 32"-40" and has a DP connection. 60 Hz would be preferable, as would true 4k, but 3840x2160 is a compromise I would be willing to make. Any input would be appreciated, Thank you!
there is a phillips 40" 4k one that you can get cheaper on amazon if you are lucky!
A friend got it for 400€ so like, 280 less ( like 680€)
If that is your option, go for it, 8bit color instead of 10bit and Tn panel is ok for the price.
if you don't have that option, a Korean Monitor is your better choice, 10 bit color, (super) mv(a) / ips panels etc.
if you manage to get a AMH A409U Version one, with only one HDMI 2.0, 10/10 must buy.
the v2 of those seems ok but there are more complaints about that then then v1, so its more gambling with the v2.
Comparing prices, 550$ made me pay 150€ in VAT so i ended up around 680€ ( 520€ ->550$ + 150 VAT).
My location is Germany, so , depending on yours, you'll get it cheaper, or similiar priced, hopefully.
TLDR
40" 4k is a must, the phillips one is ok, if prices are similiar to the Koreans, get a Korean!
Those Phiilips UHD monitors always seem to have some sort of unique trait! From horrible bleeding on certain colour combos on the 40" (VA) and now a ~2.5s glitch on the new 43" inch (IPS) version!
They still review fairly well though so don't completely discount those.
I have a confession though. I had a zero defect AMH A309U 40" monitor last year and I knocked it over and broke it! Otherwise I'd be using that right now so yeah the AMH 409U if there is a particular model out there.
If I was to buy another large UHD then I would be looking a the Microboard offers simply because I like the industrial style case and stands.
What complaints are there with v2 of the amh409?
LG 27MU67
4k at 27" is fucking beautiful, highly recommend it. It has freesync too and 99% sRGB
