I'm on the verge of buying a new gaming rig and I wanted some feedback on it.
I have a few prerequisites though. I want a PC that I could keep for at least 3 years since I'll be a student again next year, I won't have the money to invest for a little while. I want it to be as silent as possible [I cannot stand a loud PC, never have, never will]. I want a compact build 'cause I'll move back and forth between college and my internship every month. And finally, I cannot afford more than 1350 EUR.
Looks good to me, but the timings on the ram look a little high. I would personally try to get some lower timings. Also, you might be better off going with a 2500K. It should perform better since it can usually overclock higher, and it runs cooler.
Thanks man ! I have a hard time figuring out the RAM thing, 'cause I know Ivy really benefits from faster RAM, but faster RAM means higher timings... If you have any recommendations regarding the RAM, i'm all ears !
As for the 2500K, I know for fact that it'll be faster, especially for gaming -since Ivy's OC is just ridiculous... On the other hand, it's always nice to have the latest gizmos.
So I might opt for the 2500K then, and get lower timings RAM.
Thanks a bunch for the input, always appreciated !
No problem. I'm personally using a 2600K and 8GB of G.Skill RipjawsX @1600mhz with timings of 7-8-7-24.
I would definitely recommend the 2500K though if you're going to be overclocking. When it comes to ram, there is a really nice Mushkin Redline kit out there that runs at 1600mhz and has timings of 7-7-7-24. If you can find this kit in Europe, I would definitely go for it:
Everything looks good. If you're looking for overclocking I would go for the 2500K. never heard of the PSU brand but it seems legit from what I can see, 80+ certification so it should be good.
Yeah, I'm not sure how great Be Quiet!'s PSUs are. I know at least one person on this site has recommended them, but I don't have any experience with them and would be a lot more comfortable with something from Seasonic, Corsair, Silverstone, Enermax, or Cooler Master.
I have used a beQuiet PSU once in a build and it basically broke down after 2 years. I'd recommend to go with Corsair or Seasonic. For example Corsair TX650M is around 110EUR (at least in Finland), it's modular and also has a 5-year warranty.
With the exception of things breaking, what you have will probably last a while. I can't say 3 years cause that is a decent amount of time, but what you have should last.
Thanks for the input guys ! bequiet! offers a 5 yrs warranty inc. 1 year onsite. They're a great choice from all the French forums I can read. Very quiet, super stable, and great customer service. I may very well give it a try, considering the 5 yrs warrranty, it's not like i'd be taking big risks. Plus it'd be great to have some feedback, don't you think ?
Hmm, thanks for the info. I'll definitely check the TX650M out. The only thing is, it's not fully modular [and i'm quite OCD about cable management :P ]
Thanks ! Don't get me wrong, I don't expect running COD MW6 with Ultra details in 3 years time. But I wanna be at least able to run it quite properly in 1080p :)
There's still the CPU / RAM / PSU issues, but we're on the right track !
Yeah, if it has a 5 year warranty then you might as well go for it...although if you get a really bad power supply it could take the rest of your rig with it. If others are saying it's a good brand then you're probably fine though.
My first power supply was a PowerUp!, and it worked fine for about two years and then the fans in it died and it started to overheat, so I just bought a cheap 650 watt Ultra PSU to replace it. I'm using a Corsair in my current build though.
Well the only cables that aren't modular should be the ones you're going to use anyway like the 24 pin and 8 pin motherboard connectors and maybe a PCI-E connector or two and a sata cable.
Keep away from Ivy bridge, runs really hot. Intel really should've used actual soldering instead of TIM on the IHS. That's why Sandy Bridge's run so much cooler. I say go 2500k and overlock the hell out of it. I got one at 5.0Ghz and idles at 36C on an H80...actually cooler than my 2600k at stock speeds.
