Looking for some good Extensions for Chromium & Vivaldi

Hey all.

As the title says.

I'm looking for some good extensions for Chromium & Vivaldi i have been using some but i'm starting to feel like these extensions are hit and miss mainly miss mostly looking for a good AdBlock & Popup blocker that actually works i'm using one but it's not really killing the popups, Yes some of the websites i go too have pop ups that play videos and the videos are annoying.

At the moment i'm using a vanilla copy of Vivaldi i have to say Vivaldi is actually pretty damn good the only bad thing i could say about it is i'm so used to having my Bookmarks as a webpage so when i open up Chromium or Chrome i see my Bookmarks as the first page that opens maybe that is not such a good idea but i'm so used to it i prefer it.

If there are any more extensions that you think i should be using please add them so i can look at them.

Here is some screenshots of the extensions that i was using.

Thanks

Out of the 2 screenshots i uploaded would you say to keep any of those extensions that i was using or just stop using all of them apart from like BetterTTV & Maybe Stylish.

Unless there's alternative to BetterTTV i have looked before but haven't found one

I will have a look at the ones you use, I remember at one point i was using the IBA extension.

Thanks

I would switch AdBlock for uBlock, everything else is up to you.
Oh, and you can have several of those bookmark quick select screens in Vivaldi.

I have try and used uBlock it's a bit confusing maybe i just wasn't using it long enough, But does uBlock really block everything, I have noticed with AdBlock it blocks some ads but not all, Is it cause the ads are getting smarter and AdBlock is old now i'm not really sure.

Are you talking about uBlock or uBlock Origin. There's like four different uBlocks.

The popups one is the annoying one tho i can't seem to find an a extension that actually stops them maybe the same applies with the popups too there getting smarter too and finding ways around the extension.

Thanks again.

I think I heard something about Adblock beginning to allow non-intrusive ads, someone might correct me here though. Anyway, I use uBlock Origin. The origin part is important if you want the feature to unblock certain sites, for instance if it detects a false positive or if the site blocks content because it detects an ad-blocker.

I also use Privacy Badger, which I think is comparable to @CrossCarbon's Privacy Protector plus. Also use Auto HD Settings, for choosing a certain resolution on youtube videos.

Also, HTTPS Everywhere, to insure you get the SSL connection if a website puts out both http and https elements.

Edit: uBlock Origin is the original developer's new fork, he handed uBlock over to a new developer who hasn't done much to improve what he was given AFAIK.

AdBlock Plus uses opt in by default "allow unobtrusive ads", you have to change that setting first. Then I think their easylist sometimes gets out of date but that can be added manually. I acctually think that ABP is superior to uBlock origin if you use e-commerce sites alot, it doesn't interrupt affiliate links. Off-course there is some security problems with affiliate links since you can't be always sure where url leads. It's always a trade of, also custom blocking rules are easier with Element hiding helper for ABP (that's subjective to me).

I never used AdBlock Plus it was just normal AdBlock but it seems to me that all AdBlock extensions don't seem to work like they used to but it's like you said they allow unobtrusive ads now so maybe it's just a settings issue.

I think i just need to try them out and see which is the best for me, for what i want from extensions.

@Zumps Thanks for that
@ojn Thanks as well

All you need basically is Google Opt-out, uBlock Origin and Disconnect with the most restrictive list imo. That is if you don't block on hostfile level, which is advisable on Windows, because your browser is the least of your worries in terms of what it connects to behind your back on Windows. On Linux, the problem is far less pronounced, and of course you wouldn't be using Chrome or Vivaldi anyway lol.

I use uBlock Origin, HTTPS Everywhere (with blocking all unencrypted requests on), Disconnect, ZenHub for my school projects, and LastPass. I use Google Keep on Chrome for keeping lists of stuff, but last I checked Google Apps don't work on Vivaldi. Probably for the best.

@Zoltan There's an issue using uBlock Origin with Disconnect, Yeah i know windows just sucks with privacy, I can't see Microsoft changing anytime soon. Thank you.

@Jeol Yeah i'm using some of those you have listed, Thanks for that.

I'm having issues with uBlock Origin trying to white list YouTube channels, I add the address but it's not getting white listed i have try using scripts but they don't seem to work cause i think Google have been screwing with YouTube yet again but then again it seems like Google is always fucking around with YouTube.

That's an issue I never really looked into. I use YouTube Red so no ads on YouTube (with other benefits). Also, at least some of the money goes to my subscriptions, probably more than they would have gotten via ads.

Google search returns nothing. It's a difficult task because there's no identifier in the URL. Maybe someone could write a plugin for this that accesses a YT API to see if it's a video by a white listed channel. If I had time ;_;

@Jeol, I was using Tampermonkey for the scripts and they didn't work at all, and one of them was only like 2 months old so i'm not sure what to do, I really do like uBlock Origin but the lack of white listing YouTube channels is not good for me.

The only other option i have is to give AdBlock Plus a go and change some of the settings in it.

I might look into YouTube Red to see if it would be worth while for me.
