I am looking to upgrade my PC with a R9 290. Since my current card (7870 Windforce) draws less power, I will need to upgrade my old 580W PSU as well.
(in case that is important: I am running an i5 2500k and I am overclocking the CPU and will overclock the GPU as well)
Unfortunately, I have absolutely no idea about PSUs. They supply the power and that was all that mattered to me until now.
Hence I would be very happy if someone could suggest a reasonable PSU for me. It should deliver around 750W of power, fit in my ATX case and be 80+ Gold certified. Modular would be nice but is not a must have.
I am looking for something in a resonable price range (max 120€).
Hi I can vouch for the Corsair RM 750W. its modular and the fan only comes on when it is above 60% draw.
Anyway I also look at Be Quiet 750w they look really nice. Go to PC PART PICKER and select your country in the top right corner. Then go to the PSU and you can filter down the 750w and they display the price and if they are 80+ gold certified. You can used the tabs to see the best rated or cheapest price.
thank you very much for your response. I found your corsair PSU for about 100€ on a german website: http://www.hardwareversand.de/articledetail.jsp?aid=113896&agid=1630&pvid=9ng9wd1ck_0&ref=27
Looks very tempting. The price is good as well. I think I will go with that one! Thank you very much again!!
I suggest the Seasonic S12G-650W or S12G-750W. It's a very good power supply, gold certified, all Japanese capacitors, but it's not modular, which will help keep the prices down, should be cheaper than the Corsair one (which uses Chinese capacitors, by the way).
Here is a list of very nice psu's within your budget, notice that you not realy need a 750W psu, 650W is more then enough. But i also added some 700+ psu´s in the list if you like the headroom.
Thank you very much. I am aware that I do not really need the 750W but I would like to be able to upgrade my system later without having to buy another PSU.
This may seem as a stupid question but as far as I know the PSU only takes the power it needs. So it should not make a difference if I am running my system with a gold+ 650W PSU or a gold+ 750W PSU?
No it does not matter, unless you planning a R9-290 crossfire in the future, then its better to pickup a 850W+ psu.
a system with R9-290 and some overclocks will probably draw arround 450W on full load. so basicly 650W will give you more then enough headroom for a single 290 setup.
