Looking for new GPU Under $150

Alright so, January 13th I'll be getting a new with a Max budget of 175, but would like to spend Around 130-40 to get some other part's but if theres something amazing i'd spend the whole 175.

Would Really like a nvida card

I'v been looking at the 550TI and the 460GTX.

any options i am missing here?

Not unless you want to spend a little more money and get a GTX 560. The only other thing you can do with that budget is go AMD and get a Radeon HD 6850 or 6870.

Yeah I would recommend 6850. More bang for your buck.

Well the 6850 is pretty much the same thing as the GTX 460, maybe just slightly better. I'd personally go with the GTX 460 over the 6850. I'm a little biased towards Nvidia though. I've just had an overall better experience with their cards.

Can't get a ATI card for a good reason.

http://images.highspeedbackbone.net/skuimages/large/C283-2050-main01-jl.jpg that be my case.

to my understanding the 550ti is slower than a 460, is it even worth considering a Overclocked 550ti to a Stock 460?

You're right, the GTX 460 is faster than the 550 TI. But, be sure to get the 1GB 256bit version. (don't get 2GB)

For example, get this:

And not This:

even though the later has a higher clock and memory speed, it only has a 192bit memory interface (you're losing 15% in memory performance). I'm sure you can overclock the PNY's clocks close to that of the EVGA and get better performance. I would expect 700+ on the core and 1000+ on the memory.

So far, it doesn't look like there's anything AMAZING at 175$ so I would go for the GTX 460. By the way, What's your current GPU?

Turns out it's far more complicated...

Apparently, Nvidia decided to confuse everyone with it's flurry of recycling different GPUs in already existing video cards. (560Ti 448, GTX 460 V2)

It turns out, the EVGA GTX 460 is Version 2 of the card. This is actually a 560Ti that has been stripped down to the specs of a GTX 460 but with a 192bit interface. In fact, the older version(PNY (GF104)) and the new one(GF114) aren't even SLI compatible. To make matters worse, I can't find any reputable reviews comparing the two.

However, it's currently accepted that the version 1 has higher performance at higher resolutions and Anti-aliasing thanks to an additional 64bit and Version 2 is faster at lower resolutions with lower Anti-aliasing settings.

At this point, it's up to your playing style.

My Current GPU is a 9800GTX+

And yes the 460's I was planning to get the 256.

and to find a version one i'm going to be looking for a Refurbished most likely?

Not necessarily. Newegg is still selling some new:

I really don't know why the PNY is so much cheaper than the others. The other brands that are still at newegg seem really overpriced. You could always check out Amazon and other online retailers as well; I'm sure they have some new ones still.

Also, I know for a fact that Best Buy still has some new ones in stock if you really really want a new one (I don't know which version they are though [192 bit vs 256 bit]).

Well It Looks like the PNY one is one I'll be getting unless anyone else knows any in same price range.

anyone have any experience with PNY?

don't forget to price check those babies

Redacted, Am Retard.

PNY it is and Overclock it to the EVGA speeds.

I haven't read the whole thread, but the best card I can think of, is indeed the HD 6850. I'd take it over a GTX 460 any day.

Well they're pretty much the same card. It really just comes down to Nvidia vs AMD.

Lower temps, less power consumption, not quite as loud in some scenarios. I've owned both cards, and I preferred the 6850.

Well according to this comparison, the GTX 460 uses more power, but it actually runs cooler than the 6850:

You're probably right. I had a non-reference 6850, so that probably gave me lower than normal noise levels.

Alright, So the card i was looking at went out of stock the day before I ordered it.

Now I am looking at other 460's I found a 460 GTX SE but It only has 288 Processor Cores BUT it is 256bit.

The PNY one i was looking at was 256bit WITH 336 Processor Cores

Are The Extra cores really that important?

is it the same ram type (as in GDDR3 or GDDR5) if it is then you'll have more memory bandwidth and those cores will provide more power

It is the EVGA GeForce GTX 460 SE, so yes GDDR5.

and can someone explain all the Different versions of EVGA's 460's? seems like the SE is it's own card.
