Looking for hardware advise for a dedicated FreeNAS box

I’m looking to build a dedicated freenas box with 32GB (4x8GB) of DDR3 I have around from an old build.

I’ve currently got a 12 drive ZFS array passed through to a freenas VM via 2 Dell H310’s flashed to IT mode (2x PCIe 2.0 x8 cards). I want to break this VM out into it’s own machine.

I’m looking for recommendations primarily for a motherboard and CPU for this box, with it being used exclusively for storage. I’m concerned somewhat about noise and heat so I’d prefer to not have anything too overpowered heat-wise. I’d also like it to fit in the current standard ATX case (a Rosewill RSV-R4000) I’ve got the drives currently in as it’s pretty quiet and keeps the drives at a good temperature.
