Looking for "filmic" color reproduction in digital body

This may just be a case of "upgrade-itis" when I feel my photos are stagnating, but I've had a difficult time trying to achieve that muted, pastel "filmic" look within digital. Of course nothing can truly replace film but I've become so accustomed to the workflow of digital. I currently use DxO Filmpack 5 and VSCO plug in for Lightroom to try to color correct my photos to look more filmic. I've gone through a few camera bodies in the past year or two, starting with the Canon T2i, then Nikon D800, and now Samsung NX1. Ironically, I find the best color reproduction I get is from the Sigma DP Merrill series of cameras. The foveon sensor on these are truly incredible and the images I am most proud of have come from these tiny cameras.

Just from my experience I feel the color from the foveon is so much more organic. You can still certainly tell it is digital, but throwing a Tiffen pearlescent diffusion filter really gets you close to a film image. All that being said, there are the usual marks of dynamic range, low-light performance, etc. but few benchmarks (that I found) for tonality and color reproduction. Maybe I'm in over my head, but I've been looking at the Pentax 645D. The CCD sensor of older medium format and 35mm cameras are supposedly more muted and close to that look I'm trying to get. The D800 files are solid but having used it for a few months, it's just clunky and not particularly inspiring to shoot with. The colors are also quite flat for my taste.

Any suggestions / advice / feedback would be greatly appreciated. Sorry for the long post. I'll post my flickr link for anyone wanting to scroll through my mediocre photos from these different systems.

have you taken a look at Mastin labs LR presets ? they have 3 packs that represent kodak, fuji, and ilford bw

I bought all the packs when they were 40% off - just follow them on social media to see when they have sales.

if you are trying to make digital images look like film this is pretty much it, there are wedding photographers that shoot hybrid film and digital and use mastin labs to make them match. hard to really tell the difference.. they also have great support on FB.. they answer all of my questions.. and just recently added support for sony

Get your hands on a Fuji X-Pro2! In my opinion it is the first camera that has really amazing color straight ooc. The older Fuji bodies are good, too. But with the new one ... they nailed it.
