I have a Dell Studio XPS 9100 w/ an Intel Core i7 930 CPu runing at stock clock, 2.80Ghz and the fan that the machine has is awful. Recently it has been really loud and just likes to start being obnoxious anytime I play games or anything. I'm almost starting to think that small visual lag during graphics-intensive games might be caused to the CPU slowing itself down.
You can see the ducting system that the stock fan has, there is a port on the side of the case for it to vent.
I wanted to get something robust yet quiet to run the machine. It's on 24/7 and I often run servers off of it. I don't plan on doing any overclocking, so that is not a huge factor for my purchase, I haven't even researched my CPU to see if overclocking is even an option. While I'm replacing this cooler, I will most likely replace the other fans in the case as well.
All help is appreciated, thanks!
The graphics card might be poopy that comes with oem systems and if it is because of the porcessor it should be a standard motherboard mount for whatever cooler you have on the corrcet me if im wrong 1366 socket for that i7
Yeah, It is the 1366 socket.
I'm going to do something about the graphics later this year, but I need to do something about my fans first. I just have no idea where to start with the fans.
I would reccomend just ditching the dell case overall and getting a new one that has better airflow,
but make shure you buy a full size ATX case because you never know with these oem motherboards if it does not say what size the mobo is on the website then ATX is your best bet Maybe something like a z11 plus if you are really worried about cooling
Ditching the case isn't an option right now, I'd much rather put that money towards hardware opposed to a new case. Just a new fan is what I need for now
