I am looking for fast(er) wireless router to replace my good-old Linksys WRT54G (v.2). With more people in my household using Netflix and gaming over Wi-Fi, it is putting a lot of stress my 8 year old router. I am looking for a reliable router that is build like a tank and is very quick (gigabit Ethernet ports and dual-band N)I have found the Linksys E3000 at a reasonable price on Newegg, but some of the reviews say that it overheats and overall not that great. I also found the Linksys E4200 (again on Newegg) with not very many stellar reviews. I don’t care about prices as long it is not an absurd amount of money.
From my experiences I can tell you this:
Routers are cheaply made, and there are ALWAYS faulty ones out there from any brand. A few of my friends bought a D-Link a few years back and they loved it. About a year later I went to the store, bought it, and 2 weeks later it died. Routers are more of a hit-and-miss than hard drives >_>
Either of those Linksys routers will work just fine, just make sure you keep all the packaging in case it needs to be RMA'd. If you're wondering what other people from RTW use, here's my router: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16833122334
Hope this helps!
I have the same one Abstract uses as well as many of my friends for some time now and no problems so far for any of us.
i still just have 3 wrt54g's (two v2's and a v3.1)
all running ddwrt... i hope i never have to replace them.
Asus makes a great router with two USB drive connects so you can add network drives.

Model without USB

I own this router the only thing i would want different is the USB ports to be 3.0 for faster data transfer.

I have a wrtg54gl 1.1 and its a trooper. its my second in this line as I lost my first in a break up. trust me this thing is a tank. If your willing to wait and drop some bones then wait for this bad boy that was just announced at CES.

That D-Link router sounds interesting, I should look into it.
Thank you!
