I checked infinite cables and could not find any listed, saw some on Amazon but they appeared to be no/Chinese-names brands, I am not sure I can trust these manufacturers.
Any reliable recommendations for these cables (I already purchased/own the HBA and case with backplane, I just need to connect the two)?
Hi there, if those are MCIO 8i connectors, there are cables on AliExpress, that will work. You’d need to find out whether the connectors are MCIO (PCIe Gen5) or SlimSAS 8i (usually PCIe Gen up to 4), because they aren’t compatible despite looking very similar.
Also I believe the cables there are MCIO 8i to 2 MCIO 4i. If you need the MINIS AS connectors on the other end, make sure to double-check everything.
Perhaps something like this?: CableDeconn PCI-E SAS 4.0 Ultraport Slimline SFF-8654 8i to Dual 8087 Mini SAS 36P HD Cable PCI-Express 0.5m https://a.aliexpress.com/_EwRRM1x
I myself have bought a card, that exposes 4 MCIO 4i ports on a PCIe card (not sure x8 or x16 and I think it was Gen4 despite MCIO connectors) and I bought cables from those to U.2.
Would you mind showing the backplane you want to connect? Otherwise perhaps those cables I linked above will work? If you are not comfortable with using AliExpress, you can give Amazon or your local vendors a try, but be sure to double-check the actual connectors. Especially since MCIO vs SlimSAS looks somewhat similar.
Comes with the chassis I intend to purchase. However, I did find the “non-name” brand that makes these and they did not have anymore information than what I found here with the listing:
Also, for convenience, here is the HBA link again:
I just want to know what to look for and reputable cable brands as Infinite cables didn’t have these and I found some on Amazon but, similar to how I am always worried about using Molex connectors and fires, I’m worries I’ll spend a ton of money on cables and they’ll work for only the time before the return date.
I am in a similar situation where I would like to connect a three Broadcom 9500-8i controllers to six SFF-8087 backplanes in the Norco RPC-4224 chassis. I have heard most SFF-8654 8i to 2x SFF-8087 cables is having a hard time detecting SATA drives.
