Looking for a new Motherboard

Hello everyone,

I'm currently looking for a replacement motherboard as I've outgrown my current board. I do mean outgrown it every single port is filled up, even all the USBs as used. I doa  bit of everything which makes it kinda hard to find the board I want. I'm not too worried about price but would like to see it stay under 400 bucks. Reason I'm here is because I've looked and I know there are some people up here with far better skills then my own.

Requirements:

Socket type LGA 1155, honestly if I need a new processor I'm willing to do so but rather not do it.

SLI, this is a must I have to nVidia cards and I want to give it a try.

At least 6 USB ports on the back, would like more

At least 6 SATA connections inside, would like 8-12 SATA ports.

At least three PCI-e and at least one PCI, I have a few cards that still use PCI.

Dual NIC, if possible, I can always use a PCI-e/PCI.

A decent BIOS that allows over clocking to some degree.

Would like it to look decent

At least 4 RAM slots, I think this would be a no brainer just trying to make sure.

At least one serial port, again I can use PCI-e/PCI.

USB 3.0 for a front panel connection.

If possible server/production like settings and /or abilities. Like remoting into the board, I doubt that will be possible as no one makes a gaming/server board but hey a guy can dream.

Thanks to all that give me a hand I've looked and looked but I've had no luck on it.

Asrock Z77 OC Formula has alot of feutures that you would like. 12+4 powerphase digi vrm, 6x sata 6gb/s and 4xsata 3gb/s. alot of usb ports. only no dual lan. But i think its a nice feuture rich board for $213. It is E-ATX.

You only have to check if it does contain your specified feutures.

And it looks damm sexy as you ask me. ☺

It does, and I like most of the features that come with it. I'm reading the reviews and I'm a little shaky on it currently. I've heard the mounted fan fails quickly, SATA ports stop working, and the PCI-E's fail after a bit. From anywhere within 3 months to 13 months. Most seem to complain about failures at 9 months. I'm still going to look into it and I will admit it looks awesome. Just want to make sure it's going to treat me right as well.

ASUS ROG 1155 Formula. You probably don't need to buy it, but it is worth considering ;D

Sexy sex x infinite + more than your requirements = over indulgent goodness

That is an awesome board and I did actually find these and took a look at them. I had a harder time finding good reviews on it. I'll look again when I get home this evening but it's an option. Thanks to everyone so far.

Offcourse the Asus Maximus V Formula is also a awesome board yes. Will be abit equal to Asrocks OC formula. in terms of feutures. But the Asus has more pci-e X1 slots in the first place. the reason why i did not name that board, is because i could nowhere find the Asus rog Formula on sale. only the Maximus V Extreme.

I thought it was a competition to see who could find the sexiest motherboard. But it is important to colour match all the components. So ROG is not a suitable option for everyone who fails to fulfill the black/red colour scheme!

To be honest, 1155 are becoming scarce because it is an older socket. This appears to be the only available ROG Formula available on Newegg:

It was listed as open box. Possibly ex-display?

Asus Maximus V Extreme. But its price is a bit high. Its getting a bit harder indeed to grab a Z77 board thease days.

And now my bag of Heart Breaker potato chips is empty :(

That's what I was starting to notice, I'll probably give an AMD board/CPU a try next time. Might just hold off for now and invest in a new board and CPU later on. Thanks though!

That's another thing I noticed about the Asus board, I found them for sale on CDW for around 350-400 bucks but that's a bit much and CDW I'm unsure about their return policy.

Really starting to lean toward the Asrock board, the SATA ports are really appealing.

well im trying to find out more information about those sata issue, you talked about. im trying to investigate which sata controllers they use on that board.

The Asrock OC Formula uses 2 sata 6 ports on the Z77 chipset, and 4 ports on a marvel controller Marvell SE9172.

The Asus rog Formula, uses 2 sata6 ports on the Z77 chipset aswell, but for the other 4 sata 6 ports, they have used an Asmedia controller.

Its just to find out if those problems are driver related, or hardware related.

I wonder if the issue would carry over from Windows to say Linux? Very curious indeed.
