Looking for a mid-high GPU at a good value

So my old Geforce 8800 finally kicked the bucket, so I've been looking into getting a new card. However, the best cards seem to be pretty expensive and my 8800 still seemed to run most games at med-high, so I'm not so sure getting the very best of the best is necessary (at least for now)

According to PC Benchmark, the GTX 260 has one of the best values of an Nvidia card, so I'm thinking of picking up one, but I wanted to get an expert opinion. So what do you guys think? Is this a good deal or should I get something even better? Mind you, I want to stay under about $200 or so, just getting a replacement for an already good card, don't need to go all out...

Thanks!

Is your card still under warranty? A friend of mine had his 8800gts 640mb ed. RMA'd a little over a year ago and they sent him a GTX 260 core 216. If you were able to qualify for an RMA, they might send you something better than a GTX 260 since those aren't in production anymore.

^^^ This. Specially if it's an XFX it has two life time warranties if you register it. EVGA has a life time warranty. Check out to see if your card is still covered.

bake the 8800 to try and revive it, its worth a shot

it worked for me once

GTX 560 or the Radeon HD 6850

Definitely 6850. More power-efficient and has better scaling in many games.

why not 6870

I've read that people do it with their red ring'd xbox 360s as well with varying success.

The 6850 has a way higher price-to-performance ratio. Plus if you want to crossfire a couple of 6850s down the line, they will pull more FPS than your eyes can detect anyway.

Don't go with a GTX 260. Those a pretty dated by now.

If I were you I'd go with either a Radeon HD 6850 or 6870.

For $200 I'd go with one of these:

It comes with a $30 mail in rebate too, so it would actually only end up costing you about $165 in the long run.

I'd say 6850, 6870, or GTX 560

GTX 560 or GTX 560 TI?

the gtx560ti is the true successor to the 8800gt apparently, both coming in at roughly the same price and hopefully the 560ti has the staying power as same as the 8800gt :/

I still don't understand why people like the 560 Ti so much.

The 6950 is the same price, but more powerful

^accoustics :/

Sucks when that happens. And newegg does it often.
