Looking for a good PC for gaming 2014

So, I've watched the Tek Syndicate video on the $1200 pc build and I'm wondering if those parts are still "good" for gaming in 2014. The build includes...

CPU: Intel Core i5-2500K 3.3GHz Quad-Core Processor ($169.99)

CPU Cooler: Corsair Hydro Series H60 74.4 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler ($54.99)

Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-Z77X-D3H ATX LGA1155 Motherboard ($141.99)

Memory: Mushkin Redline 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory ($74.99)

HardDrive: A-Data XPG SX900 128GB 2.5" Solid State Disk ($119.99)

Video Card: HIS Radeon HD 7970 3GB Video Card ($409.99)

Case: Fractal Design Define R3 Black Pearl ATX Mid Tower Case ($114.99)

PowerSupply: Thermaltake 750W ATX12V / EPS12V Power Supply ($79.99)

OpticalDrive: LG GH24NS90 DVD/CD Writer ($16.99)

Total: 1183.91

The prices are changing but the total is around the same. If this is outdated could I possible get some suggestions on a different build.

my budget is around $1000-$1200, Essentials: an Intel CPU and a 128gb SSD.

Quick note, the games I would like to be able to play are Battlefield 4, Planet Side  2 and most steam games.

For that budget, it would be better to adopt a newer generation CPU like ivy bridge or haswell. Although the 2500K is also a very capable cpu to run crossfire or sli in the future, it is also a bit old. If you can get a discount of that thing then it'd be great since the newer i5s run about $200 or more.

Maybe wait for the 4690k.

MetalSheepif you can find all those parts for under $800 it will be a good deal. If not just build one with the newer parts like everyones saying.
