Looking for a good old style rpg

so after noticing this on steam yesterday it got me wanting to play a older style rpg, was going to buy it but heard horrible things, i would like to play something like zenonia, but i no longer have an android device and they haven't released it to pc

people seem to have construed what an rpg is as of late, i don't want some "make your own plan do whatever you want" game like skyrim or fallout nv, i'm perfectly happy just following a story (open world ish would be perfered)

and cheap would be a plus, i'd perfer something recent but if you know of something old but good i'm perfectly fine with emulators (nes/snes/gba/ds w-minimal touchscreening/ whatever)

  • chronotrigger on snes was epic
  • final fantasy 6 on snes was also awesomesauce
  • shining force 1&2 on genesis (and the later ones if you can find them..think they were sega saturn)
  • crusader of centy (genesis)
  • Illusion of gaia (snes)
  • fallout 1 & 2 (pc.. will run on windows 7)
  • lunar (sega cd)

...I am assuming you have already played baldurs gate 1&2?

dragon warrior VII if you have a million hours for grinding and content

its a little slow to start and you might think the game is simple untill about 1/4th a ways through where you get to change class (30 classes I think)

Wild Arms is also pretty good

Golden Sun is amazing
