Looking for a focus oriented word program for linux

Hey guys, I am looking for a word program for linux that gets out of my way so that I can focus on writing.

Once I am done, I can throw it into libre office.

I have done a bit of research and all I can find are programs that use cloud storage and cost money.

I just want a program that is a tad bit nicer to use than a simple text editor.

Vim or emace?

You can add in spell check if needed and off you go. Write up in LaTeX?

Or do you need odt support?

Thanks for the quick reply.

I would want either odt or doc compatibility so that I could share with other people at a moments notice.

To give you a better idea of what I am looking for, I am sort of looking for a replacement of pages on OSX. I want to just be able to go full screen, have basic functionality, and have it look somewhat nice so that I do not strain my eyes.

And that is what this really comes down to. I want to avoid eye strains as much as possible because I am usually in front of a computer 12+ hours a day.

I believe libreoffice would be the best if you aren't going to use LaTeX or a simple text editor. I also think it has a focus mode.

I think what @Eden meant was that you write it in Vim or emacs then either copy/past it to libre office or import it however you want.

Press ctrl + shift + J in libreoffice.

What will you primarily use it for and how much fancy formatting do you need?

Libre/Open Office are pretty great MS Word replacements although sometimes the formatting does not translate well from docx.

The Arch Linux wiki has a pretty decent list of free word processors if you don't necessarily need a whole office suite.

Calligra Words might be suitable?
