Recently I decided I should save some money so I am looking to build a gaming PC for ~$1000. I'm looking for everything besides a sound card and peripherals. Also I would rather have a better CPU or GPU if it means giving up an SSD.

This is a cookie cutter build for gaming. The motherboard is extremely popular, the GPU is amazing, the CPU is great, all around it's the sweet spot. If you want a better case that would be suitable for watercooling later on, I would suggest a Corair C70, or a Corsair 500r for around the same price.
The only thing I would do with the above build is downgrade the GPU to a 7950 and get a higher wattage PSU. This wont leave you a ton of expansion room, and OC room.
This is a build I put together by myself.

I got the nice CPU cooler because I want to OC and that fan is very nice for OCing. However I do kind of want to get a GTX 670 but I need to tune down some of the other stuff to fit the budget. Any thoughts what I could fix so I don't loose to much performance but save money.
