I recently built a new computer:
quad core i5 (3550p I think?)
16GB Corsair Dominator RAM
Sabertooth z77, etc
Anyway, I got the Xigmatek Dark Knight CPU cooler, which is massive, so massive that it does not fit in my case, which is a 4U rackmount case, it literally sticks out maybe 1 or 2 mm, but the CPU is definitely not something I want the panel to be pushing on. Moral of the story, due to the cases limitations, I'm looking for a closed loop cooler, much like the Corsair H100 type of coolers, BUT am limited to either single or dual 80mm fans/radiator. I've seen the radiators stand alone, but would really prefer it be prefab to keep cost down. Anyone know of anything like this that isn't almost $200?
should be able to fit one of these, https://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=207_23&products_id=12956&zenid=bb4e2497d88cdfa5f493cfc4b9636550
they work well in rackmounts. otherwise its rad, + fans, block, pump & res which wouldnt really perform as well as a decent air cooler.
Noctua NH-L9i 57.5 CFM CPU Cooler even lower profile (it's not even as tall as the ram dimms when installed)
You can't overclock that cpu so it's going to be running at stock its not going to be geting that hot at stock values to warrant a huge cooling sistem or closed loop cooler.
you can probaby go with a 92mm cooler, Xigmatek/Cooler master's 92/80mm version of the tower coolers should work fine, I've used both so I'd look into a xigmatek loki
