Looking for £1,200 gaming PC

Posted here 5 months back with this topic. Unforunately my job start date got put back 3 months so I couldn't get the PC back then. I have no idea on what parts from that are still worth getting.

Normally I'd do research into parts to some degree myself, but I don't have proper computer access currently so it's a lot harder. So I'm coming here asking with no real idea on parts, sorry about that.

As for requirements

  • £1,200 rough budget. Can go slightlyyyy higher.
  • Mostly used for gaming.
  • Price needs to cover windows 7 and monitor, but not a keyboard/mouse.

Yeah, that's about it I think.

Thanks for any/all help.

What kind of games do you play? And do you have any preferences for things like Intel/AMD?

Whole variety of games. Currently one which requires best specs will likely be witcher 2. And no preference on anything really...just went best value for money.

I am not going to choose a monitor for you. I think that is something that you might want to do yourself. I'll allocate better-part of £200 for the monitor. That'll give you a lot of good 1080p options.

AMD build:

Intel build:

Fits my personal preference of IPS panel. You can save money on any of these builds. Reallocate funds wherever you see fit.

Thanks a lot :D

Seems to cover everything I need. I probably should wait for further feedback....but I just got paid 5 minutes ago and really impatient...so just going with the intel build.

Might be worth waiting for feedback. If you order it tonight, it won't count towards a working day/delivery day. If that makes sense? You've got a good 12 hour window, if not longer.

You could save money with cheaper GPU equivalents. The 7950, perhaps. But, I happen to like the builds.

Eh, that's true...but not sure when I can even get online next.

Screw it, will wait until tomorrow and force my friend to let me borrow his computer. Thanks again.

Yey, the intel build would get my vote:

better power efficiency, PCI-e3.0, overall fresher tech.

BUT, what I would do is kick off the SSD for now (buy it next month, and re-install...) and put the money on a better motherboard like ASUS Z87 pro, with a 4670K, considering all OC related features on the board... you gonna have fun + better RAM >>> DDR3 2133 or DDR3 1866

Okay, so one last question. Ended up going for the intel build with a slightly better motherboard. (http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/p/1bO3I)

Went £100 over budget....but not a huge deal.

Anyway, the one thing that I forgot to mention is that I also need to use the computer wirelessly. And as far as wireless adapters go I have absolutely NO idea whatsoever about as I've never had to deal with one. Can anybody help me out one more time? I have no idea what's sufficient or overkill, etc.

Thanks

Wired will work best for gaming.

As for wireless adaptors, you would probably need to spend around £25-35 for an adaptor with a sufficient amount of gaming bandwidth.

This one appears to be 450mbps:

You could probably find something better. I recommend anything above 300mbps.

Yeah, I've used wired previously but this time it's really not an option whatsoever.

The one you linked is substantially cheaper than what I was looking at, so probably was going complete overkill.

Not necessarily. Warranty and branding is something to consider, with cost.

I'm a bit skeptical about USB adaptors. So I chose the PCI card. It's got two antennas, which is preferable. Especially if you haven't got the possibility of a wired connection. You need every bit of stability and assurance.

Alright, thanks again for your help.
