Hey all, I have been wanting to build a PC that is going to be a good step up from what I currently have (look at my profile). This is what I have come up with, well also with the help of the lovely people on the forum. Please take a second to look it over and give me some feedback. Don't fret about the SSD, it wont be the only thing I put in there, I will also cannibalize from my old build. Here is the link http://pcpartpicker.com/p/DNgNt6
I'm actually pretty impressed with the price-to-performance on this, good job.
If anything, I would say: 1) if you can find the Haswell 4670(k) for around the same price point, I would get that instead. Though, you'd be pretty lucky to find it around that price point. I did a quick NewEgg search and looks like it goes for about $100 more.
While I understand you probably picked the EVGA PSU because of the value (and it's a damn good one too) - personally I have never used EVGA PSUs before, but I've heard a few rumors here or there that they aren't very good. If you're willing to sacrifice the promo deal going on with the EVGA PSU, I would look to another brand that is more trusted (when it comes to PSUs).
Personally, I have used Seasonic PSUs and they have always been quite impressive with quality.
Lastly; I know with RAM, right now, 8GB is acceptable, but I see us swiftly moving out of that territory. Well..I mean, 8GB will be the minimum for a long, long time, but I think we are moving to a point where performance rigs will need greater than 8GB, so if you can find a similar deal, I would say bump that up to 16. Personally, I use 8 in my build, so there's nothing wrong with that. I'm just speaking objectively about the long-term.
Just some food for thought.
Great build.
I would try to find the 500w EVGA its $10 cheaper.
look for a Haswel/Devils canyon chip on kijiji/craigslist/whatever for a deal might be able to get something for $200 thats better than that i5. Also maybe a Xeon 1230v3?
otherwise great work.
Find a spare 10 bucks and get a Core 1000 case
