I want to build a pc that can last for a long time. Is investing in a 2011-v3 worrth it? I don't want quand sli so i don't really need 40 PCI lanes. I do overclock but not that much. I would use the pc for gaming and productivity.
What should i get, LGA 1150 ( or wait for LGA 1151 ) or go with the 2011-v3 ?
Well CPUs on the 2011-V3 platform are the new Top Of The Line CPUs, so theoretically investing in them is a good way to go. But if you don't really require all the benefits that they offer, like more PCI-E express lanes, you'd be fine with a 4790k. Although, depending on what you mean my 'productivity', you MAY just benefit from the extra cores/threads
Do you have a need for more then a 4 core hyperthreaded processor? if not then go with the 1150 and get an i7 4790k and a board that has VT-D in case you want to do full performace virtulization.
