Hey, Logan Ive been watching you and Wendell for a while, love the videos! What is your opinion on the current state of mainstream metal music? Bands like Bring me The Horizon, Black Veil Brides, Miss May I, Asking Alexandria etc.... I personally think those bands are trash, and the metal-core genre has been corrupted with talent-less scene bands. I normally listen to Death/Black Metal. What are some of your favorite Death Metal bands?
Those bands aren't Metal bands they're screamo/emo, but they're commonly mistaken as Metal bands.
I agree, but they are considered mainstream "scene" metal. But they are not screamo/emo bands. In any case they are core bands.
There are too many damn sub genres. All I know is Nile will be playing here sometime in the near future, and those guys are the metal scene as far as I am concerned. Moonspell is another great band still putting out great music. Well, kinda. Alpha Omega was ok.
I like the variety, because you cant find just what you like. The variety is one of the best things about metal.
Seeing some of the Black Metal and Death Metal T-shirts that logan wears during the tek. I HIGHLY doubt he cares about the "metalcore" or "Screamo" Scene. i think he likes the black metal more than the death metal genre in my opinion.
Thats why Im asking brother, I want to know his opinion on the genre. Im into the same type on music as Logan....
There are some people out there that call those bands bullshit and that only high school teens listen to it, and they also say that it's not anything that a true metalhead would consider listening to. I agree that it's all trash and not really metal, but not only teens listen to it, some young adults do as well. I've seen Logan wearing band shirts displaying bands like The Black Dahlia Murder and Amon Amarth (both great bands by the way).
I have never heard of any of those bands. Metalcore is nonsense... screamo is nonsense... it's just angsty trash... middle class kids screaming about first world problems.
Here are a few bands I go to when I hear some terrible metalcore and need to clean my ears:
- Klabautamann
- Galar
- Amon Amarth
- Trauma (Poland)
- Fallujah
- Falls Of Rauros
- Waldgeflüster
- Agalloch
I do like some of the post black metal that is coming out these days like Krallice and Panopticon. There are different scenes and the stuff that is usually more mainstream is almost always junk. I think most of us are most discerning.
heres some personal favorites i like in no particular order.
I prefer the More Melodic and Atmospheric Black metal but theres a mix of everything here.
- Behemoth
- Chthonic
- Evilfeast
- Emperor
- Cynestole
- Summoning
- Frozen Ocean
- Burzum
- Mirrorthrone
- Darkthrone
- God Dethroned
- Arch Enemy
- Tantalos
- Mayhem
Awesome list Logan! Vikings = awesome :) Also I do listen to a few death/metalcore bands, there a few good ones.
- All Shall Perish
- As I lay Dying
- Carnifex (Maybe, alot of black metal influence)
- JobForACowBoy (If you want to call them a core band)
Honestly there are not many good core bands.... Those are some of the guys who pioneered the genre, before it became you know :|. My favorite sub-genre must be technical death metal.
Fan of many different types of music. But metal is my bread and butter you could say. Mainly a fan of Nu-Metal I think is the Genre, but I'll list off what I listen to, then I can be told one way or another.
- Lamb of God (One of my top bands
- Slipknot
- Demon Hunter
- Five Finger Death Punch
- After the Burial
- Curse of Society
- System of a Down
- Black Label Society
- Mastodon (Not sure if it qualifies)
These are bands I have a fair amount of music from. But there are a lot of others that I don't have some but that I like.
I like the sword and early shadows fall
The metal scene has so much variety. I like it all, it's perfect for every mood that you may be in. Currently i think progressive, death, and plain ol' metal is shinning the most.
Technicality has become more prominent than ever. Bands like Trivium, Opeth, Lamb of God, Mastodon, Deftones, and many others are setting a new precedence and a more overall rich sounds. You're starting to see more emotion in solos, better progressions, and more technicality in rhythm.
Sure old school metal is still just as entertaining as ever but now that everyone in the scene is at those skill levels. The stakes are higher at differentiating ones band from another. So now when bands really stick out, you have to be at a whole new level. I love how metal has been rapidly progressing. I know there may be purists out there that will disagree but i've never seen so many skilled musicians coming out at this moment than i can count in the 70's and 80's. Singers now have so much range on an average compared to 10 years ago. From Growling to Throat singing and to using a more chorus style singing. Drummers all now knowing 64th beats as a standard of even being considered good at drums. Bass players are much more skilled to the point that they can play at the level of many guitarists and making bass solos sound great.
I know there are a ton of lemons for bands as well. I'm not too much of a fan of screamo/emo style music, but it does have its merits. Where they rely on love as their theme, who says that love can't be a good subject to sing about, worked for other genres. There are a ton of good musicians even in that genre, don't be deceived by their style that may not be friendly to my ear, but still hear skill spouting out of that genre as well.
Trivium for example you have insane guitar solos and their theory is amazing and collective. Another one Mastodon, another band with VERY intelligent theory whenever they make their riff progressions. Especially all that accuracy for the constant speed. Everyone can sing in that band, and many can use each others instruments and keep up with each other. Very talented band and very complex motions in their songs. Lamb of God i have to say is just brilliant, with their shift from thrashy/death metal to almost their own genre. Especially with their latest album, a great album and a nice shift and evolution of their own sound. These are just 3 bands out of hundreds of amazing bands. Recently i discovered Corelia, a new progressive band with amazing potential. All i see if musicians with insane skill coming out now. Especially the solo musicians like Devin Townsend, Andy James, Jeff Loomis, Matt Heafy, Corey Belau, Mikael Akerfeldt, and soooo many more.
I as a guitarist and a professional one at that, i'm amazed at how much is evolving in metal. Especially the last 10 years in retrospect much has changed. In any genre of music there will be a moment of a stand still, where over saturation shows up and stops the progression of music for a small moment. At this moment i think that music is evolving rapidly and getting good instruments is easier than ever, having the right stuff to play well is affordable to the poorest of musicians. Recording albums now can be done with a basic computer and perfecting sounds is easier than ever. Learning with tablature programs, and tutorials make it easier and faster to learn. It's evolving so rapidly that i'm pretty sure many of us can't keep up at the pace that it's going.
japan's favorite metal band is baby metal
I don't really get into metal, but when I do I listen to Dillinger Escape Plan.
I haven't seen them mentioned here, but maybe you guys who are into the metal scene don't consider them much of a metal band.
isnt that a hardcore band?
Are there any bands like Klabautamann, but in English? I like the sound but I don't know German.
Nah, Mathcore I believe is the 'correct' term. Talented musicians, not for everyone though...
What does that matter? Translations are easy enough to find if you really must know the lyrics.
