Logan! Thoughts on new Amon Amarth album (Jomsviking)?

What do you think of the new album?

Not a big AA fan, but I'll try to give it a listen this weekend. @Ethereal What's your favorite track so far?

@Alamar Isn't that the DT logo that you have as your avatar?

Have you listened to the new album yet?

I can't pick one, they are all so good, here's three that I like the most.

  • Raise Your Horns
  • At Dawns First Light
  • The Way of Vikings

Yes and yes. I dont think I got through the whole thing since its so long, but I dont think it will turn out to be one of my favorites. I do love their epic theme/concept albums (Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence is one of my favs) but I'm not sure yet about the new one. I need to give it another listen.

Ok. I'll check those out first.

I've listened to it a lot, and I really like it . I get these Images and Words vibes, which is my favourite DT album.

The last self titled album was kinda boring imo.

Yeah I totally agree with that. Definitely a return to the more progy, focused themes.

Agree with this as well. It is one of my least favorite albums overall. Also, as a side note, I love Mangini as a musician (he's immensely skilled), but so far I've found the drum sound lacking since Portnoy left :(

anywho . . . back to the AA discussion :D

Listening to those tracks right now @Ethereal
- Raise Your Horns has a real nice groove. Not a huge fan of the cheesy chorus though :D I think this one will definitely become a new anthem of sorts though at live shows and such.
- At dawns first light has some nice thrashy riffs, so I like that.

After a quick first listen, I think my favorite track might be Vengeance is my name. Still not really a fan of the hook though. I also like Back on northern shores.

All the song are good imho

Good stuff as usual from them

Amon Amarth have come a long way in both production quality and music composition since 1998 when their first album released. I have great respect for them for bettering themselves as musicians and continuously upping their game album after album.

I agree, you can hear the difference going from album to album, they do great work.

I don't listen much to melodeath any more. However, their newer stuff does seem interesting.

My favorite is Raise your horns. Good gods that's a good concert song.

2nd is thousand burning arrows
3rd is dawn's first light
4th is dream that cannot be

I bought the album on vinyl and I love it. I don't have a favorite track but I love a dream that cannot be, at dawns first light, and vengeance is my name. Some parts of vengeance is my name actually remind me of at dooms gates from the original doom soundtrack
