Great show/channel/website, love your take on tech, politics and social interest. My question is personal. I've searched and can't find much info(operator error possible).
I've gathered that Logan, you are Native American. (This could just be a joke because you have the same name as a famous Iroquois, not sure...)
I'm from outside the USA and have never visited. I would like to know how it is to be a Native American? Have you distanced yourself from that side of your life or have you had/do you have any interest in it? Did you just grow up like the average US citizen, but with a twist of cultural heritage? Did/do you participate actively in any way Native American? And socially/political, have the Native Americans been completely stratified.
I'm really pretty clueless cause I've never visited the Americas. Can you give your side of the story?
In north america, (For the most part, I know there are legit Native american cultures, people) The "Native American" Culture is used for personal gain.
Showing off things, selling things, casinos, tourism. Stuff like that.
Now there ARE real, culturally aware native Americans, but it is rare.
Im 1/4th indian, 1/8th Cherokee, and 1/8th Crow. And I grew up "normally". As in, not following Native American culture. Well. Besides the occasional wolf print or home-made dream catcher.
And I did make a few Blow guns and bows, but that wasn't really culturalistic, as I didn't do it often or ceremoniously.
Looks from your post as tho the culture as mostly died and being used for making money. This has happened loads of places and I would say this about European culture too. Just take the Oktober Fest as an example...
BTW, I also made bows, arrows and blowdarts as a kid too ;)
money making and being an entitled asshole, mostly
i went on a trip a couple years ago, they had a few native american speakers from the Menominee n.a. affairs police dept. (something like that), it was pretty neat for the majority of the speaking (what they do, conservation, how they work in policing the minominee county and their members, ect. ect.) until the closing statements one guy made which were something to the effect of "this is our land and you're just being allowed to live here, but soon we will take it back and claim our rightful property, and we will take back what we deserve *subtle murderous threats*" or something like that (i'm sure i'm not doing his entitled speech a faction of it's justice), all this from a guy that was probably just as white as me (lots of german/ gamer)
not to try and derail the conversation or turn this into a hating thread, just wanted to share a story
