[Logan]Creating Music and Macs

I remember a while back, lots of people seemed to always recommend macs for creating music, why is that? I'd imagine there's some OSX only software, but is it really worth it if you're creating music?

No you can do the same thing for 60 bucks and android. The limit is you?

This is just an old myth. “Mac is for creatives, while Windows is for business and linux is for neckbeards!”
Use whatever you like. Of course there are certain benefits to different OSs, but as far as I know every big music software/hardware that is available for Mac is also available for Windows (maybe just an equivalent)

Linux is in fact a littlebit behind because of the missing ASIO / VST capabilities (requires a lot of tinkering and stuff)

It's simply a throwback to when a lot of the software that studios used from audio to art creation, was Mac based. It's not really the case anymore, sure you get Bandcamp for free with your shiny new Mac and that might be all you need. However if you want to get down and dirty with proper music creation, Ableton and Sony Acid are viable PC alternatives.

And Reaper and FL Studio and Cubase (available on both platforms)
Actually the bigger issue is not the host-software but more the plugin and AudioInterface support (proper drivers for low latencies)

ya, your a squirrel. All you need is access to the big data base.

Indeed! :)

OSX does have a nice work flow. Linux can be tinkered with to get a similar work flow hut doesn't have the proprietary software (some of the FOSS stuff is really nice though). Windows as the same software as OSX but it is harder to change the work flow.

if you know what you are doing, it is whatever you want.
macs and even iphones are easier to develop software for because supporting different hardware is not a factor. daws generally have less bugs and quirks that have to be fixed. for this reason, the mac is a good platform for music creation, but the cost may not be justifiable if you are just a hobbiest.
pc cmp is just as good. most issues are easy enough to troubleshoot and the cost can be far less expensive. plus, you would be able to build a system in the form factor you want that suits the space requirements for your studio or your "studio". as long as it is not a super budget pc or ultra thin laptop, it should be fine. there is always the possibility of upgrading certain components in the future as needed.

LMMS and Ardour and Rosegarden

I think it had a lot to do with Motorola CPU's tbh. A lot of people moved from Amiga's and Atari ST's onto Atari Falcon, which was the go to music machine for a long time. It was the machine on which Cubase and other modern format DAW's were first seen. Developers were comfortable with Motorolas architecture and therefore Apple was a logical next step for them and Mac became synonymous with music creation. Fool on those people though since Apple changed to powerPC not long after. Many think software synths are a new thing but I saw my first software TB303 at "The Party 93" running on an Amiga 500 with a 512kb ram expansion.
