I'm taking my laptop with me on holiday and have a TrueCrypt encrypted hard-drive that requires a very long password pre-boot in order to get onto the OS. I also have a password protected BIOS so as to prevent tampering with system settings. I was wondering is there anything more that I could do to prevent somebody (i.e. a thief) using the laptop, like something that works at a lower level than any current encryption software?
With TrueCrypt and software like it, it's great for protecting your data, but does little to prevent someone from swapping out the hard-disk and selling the laptop. I would rather a thief destroy the laptop out of frustration that profit from it. So something that could prevent another hard-drive from being used, perhaps requiring some sort of software on the disk containing a key or perhaps requires booting from a USB stick to authorise the use of an unknown disk would be perfect.
Of course I've just pulled this out of my imagination, but anything that accomplishes the goal of completely preventing the use of the laptop without special authorisation of some kind would be great.
Does anybody know of such software?
Thanks!
