Lock and trash

i have about 200 USD to spend (less would be great ofc). been looking through craigslist cringing at things like "fast cpu" and "hi definition screen" without any actual information. anyone have a laptop lying around they want to sell? hoping to get something to watch movies and browse the internet and play a few games but nothing to intensive. need at least 4gb of ram preferably 8. at least a dual core. and i really do need a SSD(or will have to buy and add) and a dvd drive with min 2 usb ports.

idk if im asking too much for too little. if you have something older throw it at me.

Check Newegg, refurbs you can get older Lenovo ThinkPad for about what ur offer.

Something like the HP ProBook 645 G1 or ASUS K55N wouldn't be bad. They are frequently about $200 and have Trinity or Richland series APUs in them. Usually enough CPU and graphics horsepower to play some games at medium/low.

+1, there are also some very good windows tablets that come with a keyboard in that price range that run quad core atom CPUs.

i check newegg and the stuff on craigslist is better if only people would respond....

and are the atoms any good?

The old ones aren't the new ones are decent. I use mine to play oblivion.

Haha that's what I use my ProBook for. Oblivion, WoT and Skyrim.

i dont suppose it's for sale?

and i appreciate the advice, but i rather buy from someone in the community then from some stranger on craigslist or ebay or amazon.

Not really, i can make some recommendations though, feel free to PM me if you need help outside of this thread too by the way.

do you have a microcenter near by? the model i got is a winbook and it looks like they only sell them directly at microcenter. Its an unbranded dell venue.

I'd be selling higher than $200. I've put new RAM, SSD, and the A10 APU in this laptop and that configuration goes for $450 easy. This machine also doesn't have a DVD drive, as it initially was ordered without it in favor of a second HDD bay.

This x2, I picked up a used x240 for $320 from this seller on eBay because I couldn't find any on Newegg for a decent price. The guy's eBay name is "JDaniel20" or "Thinkpadsatlanta." I actually met the guy in Atlanta en route to vacation last month and he was super cool, even let me run a disk check and memory test of an Ubuntu live USB before I bought it in Starbucks! He told me he buys them from companies in bulk when a company upgrades their hardware, so they are, in my opinion, the same thing as a refurb from Newegg, assuming he was telling the truth. But a look at his store page should let you see that it is what he says it is.

Would definitely recommend finding a refurb Thinkpad. Did the same thing last year, got a refurb x140e for dirty cheap. Super happy with it.

All refurbs are not created equal. Consumer grade laptops just aren't durable enough to start with so most Dells or HPs are just going to be unreliable or beat to hell.

Just order from somewhere with a return policy and be willing to exchange if you get a dud.

There are a lot of used thinkpad's on ebay. Most of them might be from companies dumping their older equipment after an upgrade?

Usually they don't have a hard-drive. That's not really a big deal since you are gonna throw a ssd there anyway.

TRUST THE PEOPLE THAT SAY GET A THINKPAD. You'll wish you had after you've gone through an Apple, Acer, Dell, and other mess you can find out there that isn't a "gaming" laptop. For a solid, functional, daily-use machine there is no substitute. They're like a German car with Japanese reliability.

found a Dell Latitude E6430 with a i5 3210m for 150$ on craigslist. most of the comparable thinkpads would be i5 25xx series and i would not get to turn it on and makes sure it works before i paid for it in person. it's still a business class laptop only with a 1t 7200rpm hdd that i will actually use after i replace it with a ssd, instead of these usb sized hard drives.

@moderators this can be closed

I'll close this thread but next time, post in the B/S/T/ forum if you have anything to sell or wanting to buy or trade. It is not the place for your purchase recommendations; post that somewhere else.
