My College started doing a LAN party every semester last fall. We are doing the LAN party to help raise funds for our local AITP (Association of Information Technology Professionals) chapter. We are currently planning for the next one on the Friday after next. Which in this case is the Friday after Spring Break here in Mississippi.
One of the things we are having problems with is selecting good tournament games for both Consoles and PC.
We also have a lack of prizes due to our low funds....example, for us to sell chocolate bars like they do in high schools, it would cost us more than we have in our treasury. Does anyone have any suggestions for good LAN games as well as tools to manage the LAN better? We have looked for sponsors and have a few local vendors providing things like portable generators and food but all we have for prizes are gift cards to Gamestop and Steam. Last semester, not many showed since that was all we had for prizes. Meanwhile MSU (Mississippi State University) had a small one that maxed out to overflowing since they had a sweet gaming rig as a prize. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.
Try to get in contact with the group that put on the MSU LAN party and ask them how they managed to get such good prizes. Always try to ask the people that you're trying to emulate or who have successfully done what you're trying to do.
