I'm a network novice at best, and I've tried anything I know (ipconfig stuff mostly), but here's the issue:
My room mate is hooked up to the router via port 2, I'm on port 1. I start a server or start playing ON a server, then when he connects it drops all gateway and DNS information from his machine. The only action we've been able to take to revive the connection is ipconfig /renew then a system reboot. Obviously not ideal...
Some other parameters for the network:
- I do not lose connection and the network is still active on wireless devices and other ports
- Running a ping test from his machine to a server comes back with all the info, only connecting causes the white out
- The router is only 10/100, but our network is only 57mbps down
- There is no IPv6 or IPv4 firewall configured
- All drivers for the Killer NIC are installed and up to date, the board is a Gigabyte G.1 Sniper (X58 version 1.0)
I'm wondering if there's something I'm missing here. I personally believe it's a fault with his NIC, but I'm just not familiar enough with networking to get down to the nitty-gritty and figure this out.
Any advice or tips would be awesome.
