Linux Zorin freeze up on OS start (booting from disk)

So I've been trying to install linux Zorin however I'm having trouble with the OS freezing on start-up making it impossible to install.  It reaches the desktop however the desktop flashes to black rapidly than eventually the desktop goes to flat black with the task bar still visible on the bottom of the screen.  My mouse is also unresponsive during all of this and it does not respond to any key presses requiring a hard restart.  Starting Zorin in the "Safe Graphics Mode" seems to help with this somewhat but Zorin freezes all the same.

System specs:

AMD Phenom II X4 965

Sapphire Radeon 7850 OC Edition

1x Seagate Barracuda 1tb

1x ~360 gig WD Green (windows boot disk)

1x 160 gig WD green (what I'm trying to put Zorin on)

Enermax 550 watt psu

8 gig G.Skill Ripjaws 1600

Any help is appreaciated and I am booting off of the disk into live mode.

This sounds like a primitive suggestion but I'd just recommend reinstalling the OS, or taking it a step further and burning the zorin .ISO to another disc (if you're not using a flash drive). I have problems come up frequently when I install Linux distros, speficly Zorin. But to be honest, I've never had a problem like the one you're describing. I've had problems after installing the OS, usually. Sorry this wasn't a very technical or specific reply, but I thought I'd give my cent and a half.

The problem is I can't get theos to install in the first place, I tried both booting off the disk and going to the direct install and it freezes in both instances.  I suppose it could be the disk so I'll give that another go and see what happens.
