ubuntu says that i am using my hd 7950 proprietary drivers updates. but when i try to open metro last light, it says that my drivers arent new enough to support open gl 3.2

this is my first day using linux and i am confused as the fuck. i used additional drivers and it tells me i have a proprietary driver in use. i dont know how to update it though. any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks

Hi,

Not sure if I can help.
How did you install the drivers? You should install the fglrx drivers.

I think this could help you(https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BinaryDriverHowto/AMD) If you already installed the fglrx driver you might want to type fglrxinfo into your terminal and see what it tells you.

OpenGL vendor string: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc.
OpenGL renderer string: AMD Radeon HD 7900 Series
OpenGL version string: 4.3.12798 Compatibility Profile Context 13.35.1005

that is what it says.

Hi,

this might help you. http://wiki.cchtml.com/index.php/Frequently_Asked_Questions

If number 4 under "How do I know fglrx is installed correctly?" does not return anything it might mean that the driver is installed but the module is not loaded or used. (maybe do not know much about this stuff)

kind regards,
oldman

You should install the driver this way: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=evqpassbyqA .   This will make it easier.  If problem continues the you should find out how to update or install the latest version of opengl.
