Hello,
Do you have success in playing ray tracing games under linux ?
For me in cyberpunk, i can run the benchmark but game crash while playing after a few seconds
(i have a 7900xt)
Cyberpunk works for me, I didn’t play long with Ray Tracing, because fps is extremely low for me with 7900XTX, but it does not crash. Quake 2 RTX works fine, completed whole game with ray tracing, Metro Exodus EE worked well for the most part, some extreme dips on underground levels (into 20 FPS). Don’t know what else has working RT. I know Control works, although also has a huge performance penalty, but I only tried it for the sake of trying, not going through the game.
That’s my experience.
Thanks for your feedback !
So i have a problem ! But i don’t know what it is
You didn’t provide any information, but generally it comes down to kernel and mesa, on occasion it’s also linux-firmware package. Until mesa 23.2 was enabled per game,23.2 enabled it for all titles as it reached full conformance afaiu. Depends on your distro you might be behind there. Generally I don’t know why would you care as it’s very unplayable performance-wise, unless it’s selectively used in games (like Metro, Star Wars Survivor etc)
UPD: forgot to add most important thing: if you have a problem, go ahead and open a mesa ticket, over the years I’ve got a lot of my issues eventually resolved. It’s often not fast, but do not assume someone already did that and/or that 7900XT is the same as 7900XTX so everything should already work. You never know where the problem lies. Search the tracker and if nothing is a known issue, just open a new one.

There is an issue opened here: radv: Cyberpunk 2077 2.0 RT hang
To be honest I didn’t have a chance to try out new 2.0 update just yet, but I’ve tried to reproduce and I do have a crash right now with the ray tracing enabled when driving with Jackie, so seems to be a good place to start tracking that one
I have an update !
I am under fedora 39 and finally i had the idea to try Xorg instead of wayland
And no more crashes, everything is fine
I can play with raytracing medium and XESS on performance
And it’s ok for The Witcher 3 too
