Linux on the new Dell XPS 15

Have anyone tried to install Linux on the New XPS 15? I need a new laptop, and the XPS looks great!

Aren't there official Developer Editions that come shipped with Ubuntu, which are even cheaper because they do not include the price of the Windows license?

I know Darren Kitchen from Hak5 uses linux on a XPS 13 (shouldn't be much different) although there is a decent chance of that being a VM.

Also @thijsiez if you could post a link? That sounds really cool.

Yeah, but only the XPS 13, not the 15.

I run Fedora with KDE (latest version) on an XPS 15, it works... but there are some issues. Mainly the display port, can't get it to work in 4k resolution. Although, it might work if you run NVidias binary drivers, I haven't tried that.

As for the comments about XPS 13, there is one big difference between the two, XPS 15 have dual graphics, one Intel and one Nvidia. There are some issues with that. And while you can get it working, battery time is not as good as you would get with Windows.

Other than that, I love the hardware, probably the best laptop I've ever owned.

Like @xenchrarr said, it appears to only be the XPS 13 :( I used to have a first generation XPS 13 (L321X, Early 2012) that ran every OS I threw at it pretty well, since the hardware in it was essentially the same as you'd find a MacBook of the same age/generation. Support was really good, not too sure about the newer versions though. The biggest problem I can think of is probably the screen resolution and scaling, hardware support should be fine on any laptop :)

Cheers
